The Alternate German Print opens with the German distributors logo and then goes into the opening credits "Das Osterman Weekend"

Got the cheap JBHifi price mistake copy in -- and very thrilled Mike got this out there. Have to be honest the movie is kind of a dumpster fire no matter what cut you watch. And some of the editorial decisions in the Peckinpah edit -- well, I would've changed some of them also. Thus I'm glad the alternative "archival" German print was included for the theatrical version. Overall, what a great package he and Imprint managed to get out there in spite of the obstacles.

Mike, I was curious what are the specific legal issues holding up a release in the US or elsewhere? Something to do with Davis-Panzer? Ownership of the movie -- or something specific to do with the film itself?

Ownership I guess, which is the main reason why certain Indie-films do not get a release. The rights change hands so many times that sometimes nobody even knows anymore who the rightholder is...(and sometimes every territory has a different distribution company / current rightsholder).

IMPRINT is great, I think we will do more Peckinpah releases together...

Hopefully as the disclaimer indicates it'll get further restoration in the future, as I can't help but think it could look yet better with more work. It almost looks like the scan/transfer itself has some weird digital quirks to it by the screencaps presently posted, but I'll have to pop in my disc when it arrives and see for myself. But of course, it is admirable and incredible that it's been scanned and preserved to begin with.

My pre-order finally came in at my local shop. Can't wait to check this out, it looks and sounds like such a great package.

Maybe for you, but I've been a fan of it since it was first released. And the great cast goes a long way in contributing to my enjoyment of it. I mean, sure, it's not top tier Peckinpah, but I very much like even his lesser films.

Just FYI, the Imprint box says the theatrical is 102 and the director's cut is 105.

Technical information listed on a BD cover is sometimes incorrect. Playing the disc is the best way to be certain, especially if you want to know the exact runtime.

The German print is the same cut as the US theatrical cut just with German titles?

Picked up my copy yesterday. They weren't kidding when they said the DC is rough. Oh boy. But, it's amazing that this was made available and I'm really glad that it was included.

The theatrical cut fares a bit better, but it too is quite rough-looking. Although, it's a MASSIVE step above the previous master (which is also included in this package) that was originally used for the Anchor Bay blu-ray. Jesus, it might actually be the absolute worst HD master I've ever seen. I chucked my AB blu-ray shortly after getting it and seeing it now, it's just as bad as I remember. I'd maybe give it 0.5/5. It's just a smeary, waxy abomination with terrible black levels and a horribly pink-skewed colour grading so it's honestly a revelation to have the other 2 versions available in this set. Even if they are culled from (mostly) unrestored prints, at least they look like film!

And yeah, the German logo opens the theatrical cut, with the rest of the credits (aside from the opening title that says "Das Osterman Weekend") are all in English.

Overall this is a great package. I haven't taken a dive into the extras as of yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Just finished watching the Director's Cut and enjoyed the film way more than I've done in the past. The PQ is rough as nails in places, but it flows a lot better overall and it's not purple. Definitely my go to version now.

How similar is it to the longer cut on the Anchor Bay DVD?

Long time since I've seen that but it is covered in the documentary on the disc. The Director's Cut removes some scenes like Hauer's character having an affair.

Since Imprint's release of "The Osterman Weekend" has already sold out on their website, I urge anyone who really wants this to snatch a copy from Australia's JB-HiFi: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/o...n-1983-blu-ray

Deep Discount and DiabolikDVD are already OOS (two online stores which might have been better for American users). What you have to know with Imprint releases is that usually after they sell out on their own site, they are soon after being blocked for international delivery on the JB-HiFi website. So from then on you will only be able to buy this release from JB if you have an Australian shipping adress (the other alternative being eBay scalpers).
However, I just checked and right now international customers are still able to order "The Osterman Weekend" from JB.
