Anyway, I think for your real deal home theater you have to go projector just because of the size flexibility and the fact that the screen doesn't stick out into the room. For me, any size TV never really feels like a tricked out HT.. maybe that's just me. Any image over 80" will not be a problem for 16-18 ft.

Still kind of wondering why you want to view the movie sideways in your room. Our current setup has a long room also and the screen is at the end w/ 2 rows of seating where the back row is elevated on a platform. Behind that there is a heavy velvet curtain that can be pulled to totally enclose the theater end or it can be left open. When open anyone playing games (ping pong, airhockey, foos or pool) can easily see over the back row of seats to watch. It works as a high end HT or as a casual TV when other stuff is going on. If you have the screen on a side wall it could work as a nice theater but it fails the general party test. Imagine if you are casually watching the big game in HD but playing pool and chatting too.

Just my 2 cents.

It all depends on your taste really...

Personally having just installed a native 1080p projector on a 140 inch screen, I am a little biased.

With a room that size, and that far away, 70 inches may seem a little small. The TV is going to definetely be a lot brighter and seem more vibrant, but even at 13 feet you are sitting 2 times the screen size, and 3 times in the back row.

That Sony projector is a pretty excellent projector for the price; some do feel its a little soft, but I have seen it in action and I liked what it was throwin. Calibrated for "best" picture its going to put out around 440 lumens, which, at a decent gain screen, something like 1.2-1.4, you could probably throw anywhere from 100-130 inches with a very nice picture.

However keep in mind that the projector might not seem as bright; some describe projectors as "dim" or "soft." But, personally, nothing beats watching
POTC on Bluray on 140 inch screen, except maybe a bigger screen that is.

I personally feel that for watching movies nothing beats front projection. A true home theater is front projection all the way; thats my reccomendation.

Definitely the projector.

But only on one condition. You can fully control the ambient light in the room and don't mind watching movies in the dark.

The projector you mention above will look horrible with the lights on and windows open.

However in a 100% dark room, the projector will blow the TV out of the water.

I totally agree with this post. Good quality Front projectors currently offer the best in picture quality that can run circles around rear projectors. Also with the Sony front projector you get a 15,000:1 contrast ratio and 1080P/24 input that refreshes at 96HZ. All current rear projector Sony SXRD have 10:000:1 contrast ratio with only a 1080P/60 input with 60HZ refresh.

Im not a hugh fan of projectors. I install mostly DLP, SXRD for HT setups. I feel that projectors arent good enough.

I prefer tv over projector. It's versatile for all your viewing needs...

Don't let anyone tell you that projectors aren't good. I've had mine for over a year now and all I have to say is that I don't like watching movies any other way now. All other screen just seem too small. Plus I've read some very good reviews of the one you're planning on getting. Go with the projector, you won't regret it.

Hi,

I had a similar situation to your self except my room is 3.5m x 5.5m

I went for the sony SXRD projector and dont regret it.

its ceiling mounted and out of the way, i can adjust the picture size to what ever i want (currently 120"). With a projetor you can easily re arrange your room and adjust the picture size, with TV your stuck with a fixed picture size.

also with a TV if you decide to sell it , it might be hard to get rid of it cause its soo big.
