It would be then ninth version of that update's incarnation, in this case 1131. It's quite possible that the other eight weren't even released on-line. It just depends on how Samsung label things.

So then it's possible I am NOT running the most up-to-date version -- if I'm not seeing the ".9."

Chip:
Can you explain why the Samsung "splash screen" -- which indicates "HDMI 2: BLU-RAY PLAYER...Check Device to Power On" when the Blu-ray player isn't on -- is ONLY appearing on the HDMI 2 input? My cable box, which is in HDMI 1, DOESN'T trip this screen to come on when the box is off -- in fact, NOTHING happens when the cable box is off for that input, save for when I first turn the TV on (when I turn the display on, I get the white box up top that says "HDMI 1: CABLE BOX" and the incoming resolution info ("1080i/60" even when the box is off) prior to me turning the power on to the box... Why do I only get that "splash screen" on the HDMI 2 input? |

So far, HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 are behaving very differently -- the HDMI 1 port, where the cable box is plugged into, DOESN'T display the "splash screen" (with the moving "objects" on the blue screen that displays the input source; I can't even FIND a Google image to show you...it's like this only applies to my TV) -- only the BD PLAYER input (HDMI 2) does when I shut the player off. This whole thing is driving me nuts, as I even tried what Samsung chat suggested yesterday -- unplug the TV and wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in, which was supposed to "erase the TV's quirks and bugs." It didn't. |

It's possible your cable box continuously sends out a signal to your television even when the cable box is turned off.
I have a Verizon FIOS cable box hooked up to my receiver. When I turn off the cable box while leaving my receiver and television on, my television shows a screensaver type thing with the name Verizon floating around and there is text which says something like "Press Menu to watch television". This might be the reason your cable box is making your HDMI Input on your television act funny. Although, I believe you said this did not happen with your old television. Hopefully it's something simple like what I said about my own cable box. I know you don't want to but it looks like you're going to have to pull your TV out of the entertainment center. Doing so should give you the answers you need. Not discrediting chip75 with that last sentence, of course. He really knows his stuff. |

Disconnecting the cable box's power cord might offer some insight too, unplug it and try the HDMI input to see if it's still giving out information. Did you check to see if the cable box has a quick start function? |

Here's the situation (and this continues to occur even after loading the latest firmware and doing a hard reset of the TV by unplugging it, which was suggested to me by a Samsung chat rep last night): My cable box is plugged into HDMI 1, and my Blu-ray player (running through an Onkyo receiver) into HDMI 2. That's it for connections to the Samsung. Now, when I first turn the TV on, and it's set to the Cable Box input, I get the white bar that pops up on the top of the screen that indicates "HDMI 1: CABLE BOX - 1080/60i" and this disappears after a few seconds before I even turn the box on. When I turn it on, I can use the box normally. When powering OFF the box, I get NO other kind of screen saver from the TV or any kind of messaging about resolution or input....BUT.... When I use HDMI 2, which is the Blu-ray player port, things behave differently -- as soon as I switch to that input (with the BD player and receiver turned OFF) through the Samsung, the screen turns blue with that "moving splash graphic" on it (as I said to Chip, I can't even FIND a Google image of this to show you guys what this looks like) and it says "Blu-ray Player" in the center. After a couple of seconds, the screen becomes dimmer, as if its adjusting for the Movie mode settings I have the Blu-ray player adjusted to, and then I get a whole message saying "Check Device Power" and an option to turn the home theater devices on by clicking on the "Power On" button on the screen (even though I don't have any HDMI-CEC settings set on anywhere). I override this by turning on my receiver and then Blu-ray player separately, which eventually gets me to the player's startup screen (the Oppo/BD logos) and then I can watch discs. However, when a disc is finished and I'm ready to power down, after I shut off my receiver and player the TV displays this "spinning circle" in the middle of the blue splash screen (which DIDN'T happen prior to me installing the new firmware) and then, again, I get the "Check Device Power" message... Here's what's even weirder: The cable box (HDMI 1) DOES NOT do this -- I don't get the splash screen with this "Check Device Power" message or any of that...but I DO get the white bar on top that displays resolution information and input name (which DOESN'T happen on the HDMI 2 BD player input)... I read back a bit more and saw you guys have been talking about it. My bad.
I meant you could pull the TV out and swap around the HDMI cable inputs to see if the same bahaviour happens. That may tell you whether your HDMI board has issues. If you have access to the back of the TV without having to pull it out of the entertainment center, that works, too. |

I have no idea what is causing that behaviour. The only thing I can suggest is to remove all your components from your TV. Test each component one at a time in each input and note down everything you see. Do not connect both components when doing this. Just do them one at a time.
It will probably save you a lot of stress if you can do this. |
