My son liked Fry's, I purchased very little from them. Always been a mail order type. In the early years of computing I would buy from vendors listed in Computer Shopper and even Office Depot if they had a better price. We were one of the first to own a color computer monitor, a Sony 13" (measured was about 11-1/2") for around $600 from Office Depot (best price).

The last four computer builds have come from Newegg and Amazion.

I generally get most of my parts from Amazon and Newegg as well. It's just nice to know I have somewhere close by that stocks PC components in case of an emergency.

Is this blu-ray.com's new look?

Blu-rayDotcomAnyPage.jpg

It is pretty much all I see with almost every attempt to navigate this website today. It has been happening a lot over the past several days at random times as well.

My speedtest results are all normal and I have no problems at any other website.

This has been going on for months. Its like the server can't respond at times because it is session constrained, wait a min or two then it responds.

Netflix to spend $500 million more to line up original shows, movies in South Korea - Reuters 2/25/21

Quote:
Netflix, which had 3.8 million paid subscribers in the country at the end of 2020, has already invested nearly $700 million, feeding off the global popularity of the pop culture machine of South Korea.
A good portion of the Korea studios production is CC English, but you can see a lot of Taiwan, Korea productions being marketed for Mandarin Chinese and Korean speaking consumers around the world.

Then someone has had plenty of time to fix the problem, haven't they? Assuming anyone cares, that is.

Cinemark to be among first to reopen movie theaters in the Bay Area - SFChronicle

Quote:
The projectors are ready to roll and the big screens in the Bay Area are about to light up once again, according to Cinemark, which announced Wednesday, Feb. 24, that several of its Century movie venues would be among the first indoor theaters in the area to welcome back filmgoers this month.

The decision comes after Marin and San Mateo counties advanced this week to the second-most-restrictive category of California’s reopening blueprint, from purple to red. Cinemark didn’t waste any time — Century’s Redwood Downtown 20, Century at Tanforan in San Bruno and Century Northgate in San Rafael would reopen at 25% capacity on Friday, Feb. 26, according to the Texas-based movie theater chain.

I think server goes into maintenance mode at around 11 am UTC. It lasts for about 10-15 minutes. From UK, I have seen this happening for many months and doubt if it's abnormal.

It does but I have also noticed extra issues over the last month. Pages are taking longer to load and there have been extra time outs across several days.

I don't get that white connection screen, but once in a while I get the connection spinning for 10 to 15 seconds. So it must be some kind of capacity connection problem to the Blu-ray.com Server. Maybe a combination of Blu-ray.com Server to your ISP.

Its not the ISP, I see that using different WiFi providers when roaming during the day. Blu-ray.com has server issues handling so many sessions. It a big forum database you are accessing, its only getting bigger.

AT&T is selling a stake in DirecTV, ending an infamous saga - CNN 2/25/21

Quote:
AT&T on Thursday sold a minority stake in its video business to private equity firm TPG. The deal values DirecTV, AT&T TV and U-Verse at roughly $16 billion combined — less than a third of the $49 billion AT&T spent to buy DirecTV in 2015.

The ill-timed deal was doomed from the start. AT&T (T) bought DirecTV just as cord-cutting became the norm.
Although the marriage is less than six years old, AT&T (CNN's parent company) has been trying to unload DirecTV, or at least a portion of it, for quite some time.
The "nonsensical" merger will go down in history "as one of the worst deals ever made," according to Craig Moffett, a telecom analyst at MoffettNathanson.
Its this last article paragraph that is so much to the point.

Quote:
So, now with a sizable portion of DirecTV off its books, what can AT&T learn from its bungled deal?
"I think that they're trying now to dramatically retrench and focus around their wireless business, HBO Max, and their wired broadband business," Moffett noted. "Unfortunately, you can't pretend that you didn't buy those assets because the debt that you took on to buy them is still on the balance sheet... They bought a house they couldn't afford, and it turned out to be not a very nice house."
Ouch! But at least this page in history is over.

AT&T destroyed DirecTV. They could care less about loyalty. Being out in the country I have no choice and we're all still on DSL, but I'm hoping Starlink will change that soon.

Starlink is a Tesla notion right ?

I have a friend who is drunk on Tesla but I haven't heard from him since the stock started nose diving ... I guess he's busy.

I'm thinking I have enough acreage to have a large solar array so I"m thinking I'll get to work on that and getting groceries delivered by subscription. I have a treadmill and I may decide never to leave the house again.

I could also put in a few custom exercise bikes to generate more charge for the batteries.

It's been ongoing for months. Sometimes it'll work fine but other times it'll just collapse, and it's nada to do with the 11am outage as mentioned above.

My subs arrived this morning and they are bigger than I thought. The downside, and I should have noticed it sooner, is that the cables that go into the sub are supposed to be ANGLE RCA MALE and the cables I bought from Show Me Cables are just regular Male kind. I just ordered two 90 degree RCA adapters from Amazon, which should arrive tomorrow. Monoprice did include some angle cables (the cheap red and white kind), so will play around with those and try to work on the logistics of placing and rearranging some items for maximum room placement. I'd be tempted to just connect the cables from SMC and be done with it but the subwoofer would be too heavy and just bend and potentially damage the cable/connection. Seems that the RCA adapter is essential. Good thing I only need two.
