The company said it will continue to sell HD-DVD products for a while but will stop further development of HD DVD. Meanwhile, it said its DVD factories in Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan, would be closed.
Payamount, could you get the lights on your way?

Very well called, Penton! It was an absolute slaughter this week and the carnage continues until this public death certificate.

That is an issue for a lot of us and it has nothing to do with BR. It is a very valuable "skill" to learn. It is hard to not play the "I know something you don't know" game. I think kids today are losing this skill. It is one reason I went to Japan 45 times for the Company.

Stay cool PM!

I always kept a secret a secret. It is hard because my theory is that everyone knows 1 person they can trust. That just slows the news down!

The authors are slightly incorrect though as the “cause” of death was the WB announcement back in Jan.

That’s easy.
It was bloody freezing in SoCal this morning.

Hey, mpsan don’t hesitate to buy The Last Waltz because even though the PQ is less than optimal (due to the original source), some of the music will bring tears to your eyes.

Hehe! I noticed that too! Although the thought actually crossed my mind that perhaps you posted the YouTube as a "Penton-speak" way of scooping the NYT instead of the other way around.

Can we now predict that the headline on monday's Times will be "Toshiba issues HD DVD Death Certificate"?

Boy, I'll second that. Both the temp AND the Last Waltz bit. Now if only I could get The Police 2007 Tour on Blu-ray...

Well Penton, YOU said that the BDA was going to take their gloves off. I'll buy the bandages to dress those bloody BDA knuckles.

OK...will do. I have high hopes for my Queen BR as well. Actually it is about 60 this weekend up here in Oregon.

That is bad as I am the one who can not read a paper or magazine without finding errors.

When are they going to invent a keyboard that can type?

Ironic how Rob Enderle has completely flip flopped over now:

Quote:
“The fat lady has sung,” said Rob Enderle, a technology industry analyst in Silicon Valley. “Wal-Mart is the biggest player in the DVD market. If it says HD DVD is done, you can take that as a fact.”
But, has apparently decided to remain a paid shill for Microsoft:

Quote:
Mr. Enderle, however, argued that bandwidth was improving and that major telecommunications carriers, which are pushing to increase speeds, would like to be able to make their pipes the delivery mechanism for high-definition movies. Wal-Mart, Warner Brothers, Best Buy and all the others lining up behind Blu-ray realized they had to kill HD DVD — and fast, he said.
What a clown... Who would believe an idiot like this? Why would anyone want to hire a consultant who is always so consistently wrong (do we all remember his days of 'The Zune will smash the iPod'). Maybe that's it... if you know he will always have it backwards, you can do the opposite and actually make money. Go figure.

OK, we are going to have to axe you all to stop posting about spelling. Go visit the "for sell" forums.

Anyway, PM you are costing me $$$. I liked my Meridian 568...now I am looking at procs that can do the new DD and DTS formats with great quality audio!!!

You know I thought the writing was on the wall when Sony sold their Cell foundry to Toshiba. To me, that was the way Sony allowed toshiba to save face.
