If the early predictions of it making sub-$100M total in China end up being true, this is not even hitting $800M worldwide.

And with the reported $340 million budget, Universal is going to lose a lot of money on this. Kind of a sad way to got for what was once their biggest money maker.

With so many big actors signed on to this series and likely demanding a big paycheck, how will they even manage to keep the budget in check for the final film.

Can you please explain how you got to this conclusion? Even doubling the budget, accounting for a massive marketing budget, it would only cost Universal $680 million. Even just $800 million would net it some profit, not "lose a lot of money".

I assume you are familiar with the fact that studios only get roughly 50% of the domestic gross, 40% of international and 25% of China.

This series has been bleeding money domestically, meaning the split will likely be very international heavy.

So out of that $800M, Uni will get less than half, which could potentially cover the production budget but that still leaves the marketing budget which, for a movie like this, is in the $200-250M range.

Avatar TWOW had a comparable budget to this ($350–460 million) and Variety reported the break even point at around $1.4 billion.
Factoring in smaller marketing and production budgets, the break even point for Fast X is probably around $1.1-1.2 billion, which I don't think it can realistically reach, not without a huge run in China.

The trailer got my interest, so I'll give this film a chance in theaters. The first time seeing a Fast Furious film again in theaters since the very first film in the series. The 2nd, I saw on TV, but missed seeing all the others other than Hobbs & Shaw spin off in theaters.

Ah yes, I forgot to factor in the fact that theatre's take a big cut. I didn't know that Chinese theatres took so much too, so thanks for explaining that.

I wonder if Scott Eastwood is going to have a small role in this or not. In Fast 8, it was kind of like he was the newest member of the team even though he worked for Mr. Nobody. I don't think he's a great actor, but I liked him in the role. I was surprised that he wasn't in the Fast 9.

I like the idea of him being apart of the team, but being that the cast is already so big and he's not in the trailer at all I'm not optimistic.

In a recent Variety interview Michelle Rodriguez said some things that sound kinda worrying.

“Can I just tell you — no pun intended, but Charlize is a monster,” Rodriguez said. “We shot our [‘Fast X’] fight sequence with no director. Bro, like, hands down, drop mic, we nailed it. We were there, we don’t need [a director], let’s do this.”

What can fans expect from the “Fast X” script? Rodriguez told Vanity Fair that moviegoers will be shocked at the ending.

“It is not really an ending, but it’s also like, ‘You can’t do this to us. We’re your die-hard fans, you can’t do this to us!'” she said. “You’re going to feel so cheated in a way, but then so gratified and excited about what’s to come.”

The test screenings haven't been going very well.

Trailer was decent, didn't see him in it. Fingers crossed their respective enough to not put Paul Walker in this.

Seems like Jason Statham is hardly in Fast 10. A smaller character at most it seems based on the trailers.

If youre using the 2.5x multiplier, which is more accurate than not, then the break even point at minimum is $850mil. So only grossing $800mil is def a money loser. It needs to break a bil to even be considered a small success

Honestly, this all sounds fine to me. As for the fight scene, I have no clue how the specifics went on that, but darn near every movie has had a female fight scene. 10 movies in, I think they could do that in their sleep.

As for "feeling cheated" by the ending, I wouldn't expect much conclusion from a movie that was meant from the beginning to be a two-part-er. And it sounds like they're throwing in some major moment near the end (maybe a death?) to build anticipation for the last entry. Marvel did it to great success.
