Could be both 4K and Blu-ray of both theatrical and extended editions of each film along with bonus 5th disc for each film that would make 30 discs for 6 films.

Yes they we're.

I've yet to see HFR personally, but my copy of Gemini Man is arriving soon.

We'll see if i like it or not. BIt might be a cool addition to the 4k hobbit releases.

I'd rather see the UHDs done at 48 fps to match the original frame rate. I wonder how off 60 fps is going to look compared to the 24 fps used on the BDs.

I don't think the UHD BD standard, in its present state, will allow it.

I love those covers, hopefully we’ll get those in the States.

That stinks. I am just curious how 12 fps over will compare to 24 fps under.

I'll be passing on this if it's 60fps. I can't stand the look. I already have the theatrical and extended in both 2D and 3D. I'll take a hit on PQ any day to avoid 60fps.

Same, but it would be nice if they included both for those who like HFR.

Haven't seen any of these at home and so my only recollections are of the theatrical showings. Enjoyed those; guess I'll have to get around to the extended editions one day.

Can't see it happening but it would would definitely be awesome to have 24 and 60fps cuts. It was bizarre in the theater and felt like a play but it was still interesting and I wouldn't mind revisiting it again. Your brain gets used to it after awhile.

30 disc set that’s going to be $500 or more. Hopefully they just release 2 4K trilogy sets like the Blu-ray sets. Don’t need the special features specially when they are in SD and I already own them twice.

I liked the covers they had on the back of the Middle Earth Collection, they’re essentially the theatrical LotR posters made uniform and matching uniform posters for the Hobbit movies but they haven’t been used in an actual set AFAIK which is weird because they look so good.

Since you tend to be a purist, I'd bet you like the 24 under more since it would maintain the same balance as the original cadence.

Would they use a 3:2 pulldown to create a 60fps version from 48fps, or is there a better technique to do this nowadays?

For PAL markets, a 50fps version might have made a bit more sense (either interpolated, or through speedup, like you would 24->25fps). Still not very pure though.

It is a shame that given HDMI standards are shifting towards variable and odd refresh rates, the BD standards have not been able to keep up. Backwards compatibility is such a pain sometimes...

They could do that, but as not every device would be able to remove the pulldown then they'd be left with a more juddery image which is the antithesis of HFR. A 50fps version with 4% speed up applied and pitch correction applied to the audio would be another way and wouldn't require any interpolation, but again the compatibility question arises as not every piece of NTSC/60Hz based tech is compatible with 50Hz (not because it can't technically do it but manufacturers are still locking out 50Hz in firmware).

I was always hoping for a Titanic quality 3D conversion of the originals but I know that ship has sailed.
