Default Fantasy, horror and sci-fi/film and TV genre magazines

Have done a thread search and couldn't find an existing thread where you can post about fantasy, horror and sci-fi/TV genre magazines (although there is one which was last posted in eleven years ago, called "What magazines are you reading?").

Interested in checking out the magazines Dark Side and Infinity. Hopefully will get a copy of the issue of Scream magazine in which there is a Halloween Ends feature.

I haven't selected a flag icon as this thread won't just be about UK-based film and TV genre magazines.

I collected a lot of horror magazines. Mostly pre 2000. I've got 35 issues of The Dark Side ranging from #1-#89. I'm not familiar with Infinity.

Infinity is the Sci-Fi equivalent of Darkside. Released by the same people.

Both are excellent.

Noticed on the Infinity website that there are special issues about various film and TV genres, including slasher horror films and horror TV series. Can't see anything though where it specifies how many pages are in these special issues.

United Kingdom Scream magazine (Halloween Ends issue)

Visited my local HMV today, and while checking for new titles etc., discovered (by chance, as I spotted a film magazine alongside it) the issue of Scream magazine with the Halloween Ends feature. Glad to get a copy.

United Kingdom Scream magazine (The Exorcist issue)

Have been checking in my local HMV recently for the new issue of Scream magazine (on the cover is The Exorcist). There were some copies of Empire magazine (with Daniel Craig on the front cover), but no Scream.

It's been in the past two to three weeks, but I checked Scream's website's news section. Seemed like too much to take in, but some interesting stuff. I had first read on here about the sequel to eighties slasher The Mutilator.

Default The current issue of Scream

Thought it best to put these comments here, relating to the current issue of Scream, although there are various discussion threads elsewhere on the forum about the films mentioned in the paragraphs below:

Off the top of my head, what I disagreed with were the comments in one of the readers' letters to Scream (as well as the magazine's editors comments in reply) about the Blumhouse trilogy (the last two films in the trilogy have certainly divided fans. Personally, on the whole I loved the Halloween trilogy), as well as the part of the Christmas-themed slasher horrors about Silent Night, Deadly Night and the remarks about it in the review of Silent Night.

One of the highlights in the Christmas slasher horrors feature was reading about The Dorm That Dripped Blood. Hopefully, a UK boutique label is able to acquire this slasher with a new restoration and master and some new video extras (interviews with cast and crew). I know of the Synapse Blu-ray release from twelve years ago this coming April, as well as last year's French Blu-ray release by Elephant Films, but there hasn't been a UK release. And over the few years, on and off I've read very good things about The Lodge.

Thanks for linking me to this thread.

I'm working my way through the issue still, but the Christmas slasher article was fascinating to read. I love articles that shine a light on lesser known films. Which is why I've now bought P2 and am due to watch it. I did get it wrong in the other thread though, they mentioned a film that had the first Santa as a slasher but I quoted Christmas Evil when I think it was another title. Either way like I mentioned before, I thought Tales from the Crypt in 1972 was the first with Joan Collins. Tales from the Crypt did a great remake of this in the TV series, I think it was the first episode. It's a real shame that TV series hasn't even seen a DVD release in the UK and you can't stream it either

I was also pleased that in the Exorcist article, The Exorcist III got some love and was called 'underrated'. It's a great film and one I can rewatch more than the classic original, though that's probably nostalgia, the detective style story (cut from the original film despite the book) and great actors.

The only time Scream magazine disappointed me recently was a couple of issues back, they had an interview with John Carpenter. I think it was over his film Vampires. It was about three pages long. It's been a long while since I've seen an interview where the person being asked questions gave up very little, didn't seem to engage much and couldn't remember stuff when being pressed. I thought he might say something about how it was to work with James Wood, controversial as he may be today, but he didn't say much. Maybe that was the point?

On a side note, Jaws 2 is underrated. Interesting how it became a slasher film with a fish!

Is it me, or is the magazine The Dark Side (which can be good), is becoming more like a softcore porn magazine? It's a fine line!

It's incredible that Dark Side is still around. The first issue came out over 30 years ago.

Have been checking Scream's website recently, and it appears it shouldn't be too long before copies of the new issue start appearing in the local branch of HMV, as copies of the new issue (which includes a feature about the original Halloween II) are starting to go out to (I think) subscribers.

Latest issue has a Dracula (risen from the grave) feature and Hellraiser pics on the cover. Issue was out on the 23rd Feb.

A trip to Smiths then!

I first found this out from doing a web search for Scream magazine, a social media post (I've only looked at the headline and brief preview in the search results) about the next new issue after the current one with Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Hellraiser, Halloween II and Friday the 13th on the front cover. It's release date is Friday 7th April, and has on the front cover The Evil Dead, The Omen, Death Ship and Renfield.

When I visited HMV yesterday (Monday), they didn't have any copies in of the current issue of Scream.

Had a quick count of the number of copies of this issue of Scream in my local HMV today. Around a handful of copies. I was fearing they had a few copies in later on last week when I didn't visit, and by the time I next visited (today) there would be hardly any copies left.

Got an issue of HorrorHound to read as well (Nosferatu on the front cover). Got that from Forbidden Planet UK.
