Whenever I have free time, it seems like more often than not, I read. This can be news, online articles, ebooks, magazines, etc.
There's things I've realized about it. I wouldn't know most things I know, if I couldn't read. The more I read, the more I continually learn new things and realize I don't know the truth. Reading gives you knowledge and exposes you to new things all the time. It is mentally stimulating and relaxing. I also (read) that, reading improves your memory and mind, since you imagine what you read. It is exercising the mind. For the mind, the benefits of reading are basically infinite. It takes you places and informs you of things you never imagined; expanding the mind. I can't count the number of times I've read something, and I've never looked at the world the same way again. It actually happens quite often. Does anyone else love reading? It is one of the best things you can do. I've also realized, it makes you better in real life. Bits and pieces of everything you read come in handy in real life. The benefits are basically infinite. |

yes of course I love reading. I still read books these days and Im kind of more open minded to other fantasy and sci fi books.
I even bought the first two Mistborn books just last year back in December. That and trying to get back into the entire Wheel of Time series where I havent read the first 6 books since I was in high school in the mid late 1990s |

I love old obscure 1980s horror novels from Bantam or some other book publishing company.
odd stuff from familys living in haunted houses or odd novels about dolls that are haunted or possessed or whatever. |

Anyone else with add/adhd? Does it affect your reading/movie watching, etc? I've pretty much always had trouble with retention when reading fiction as long back as I can remember. I'd imagine multiple head injuries also impacted my brain. I'm the same way with movies, too, where I can forget what I just watched moments after watching and I hate that.
Any tips for improving recall with books and even movies? I've heard of "being an active reader" and taking notes. I tried this years ago when my girlfriend was reading a book and asked if I'd read it, too, so we could talk about it. And I was taking notes like crazy just to remember what was going on and found it an exhausting process where I had to pretty much write outlines of every major thing I could recall with each chapter and then would have to go back and review them as I'd forgotten what I'd read. She didn't have to do this. I'm kind of envious of people who have a way better memory than I do. Watching the movie of required reading books for school helped and cliff's notes type summaries still help a lot as my mind just kind of shuts off into daydream mode otherwise. If I have an idea ahead of time where things are going then I might pay attention a bit better, but my recall is still pretty terrible. Last edited by meremortal; 05-03-2022 at 09:33 AM. |

I love to read. I always have a book that I’m in the middle of reading. I do read mostly StarTrek and Star Wars books but I read the occasional sci-fi book that’s not an media tie in.
I like reading Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn novels but sadly they’ve passed away. I haven’t found another author that writes that kind of stuff to replace them. |
