I finished reading Light of the Jedi today and I can't praise it enough.

I'm not the most well read when it comes to Star Wars. I didn't like a lot of the Expanded Universe (now Legends) so I haven't read a lot of it. The ones I have read are hit and miss.

As for the new canon, I've read many of those, and they are often a great source of information and insight into characters, but I'm not often thrilled with the stories themselves.

I was enthralled with Light of the Jedi. I love the new era and the characters. It has a different feel I enjoy. The prequels are the fall of the Jedi and Republic, the originals are the dark times of the Empire, and the sequels is of that visited upon later generations. But the High Republic, at least right now, is the Jedi and the Republic functioning like a well oiled machine. Not that they're perfect, problems definitely arise, but it's refreshing (for me at least) to see Star Wars during such a positive period. The villains are very interesting, and I'm sure they have a larger plan to permanently disrupt all this peace, but they certainly have their work cut out for them.

If this is an indication of the quality of the rest of the High Republic, then we are in for a treat!

Here's some other canon stories I enjoyed:

Light of the Jedi
Master & Apprentice
Doctor Aphra

Bloodline
Dooku: Jedi Lost
Aftermath

On a side note, don't want to get too far off topic, but it was so strange to be reading this with the news on in the background the other day. Such a contrast.

We are all the Republic!

There is no way they will do High Republic as a movie, this is going to be a series on Disney+

I don’t know, I think all possibilities are open right now, it’ll depend how popular / successful it all is.

For all we know, Rian Johnson’s trilogy is going to be a High Republic-era story set in a different corner of the galaxy!

I would agree that if they make any High Republic live-action or animated content it’s more likely to be Disney+, but we can’t rule anything in or out yet I think. It could be a decade or more before anything even happened like that. But it would be cool to get an entire series of stories and have them adapted one day.

I would take a Light of the Jedi movie (or TV show) right now though tbh.

I'm already wanting a few High Republic Black Series figures, some Funkos, a video game, and an animated series.

Did anyone get the comic or A Test of Courage? I already preordered Into the Dark for next month.

I have A Test of Courage as an e-book and will pick up the digital comic this week.

I'm considering adding either the audiobook or deluxe hardcover editions of Light of the Jedi to my collection. The deluxe version is autographed by Charles Soule, and it comes with a unique cover and High Republic socks!

I have the digital comic and the ebook for Test of Courage, I'm almost done listening to the audiobook for Light of Jedi (on chapter 21). I have the audiobooks for Into the Dark and Rising Storm pre-ordered.

For continuity purposes, you definitely want to read the comic after Light of The Jedi, I made the mistake of reading it already.

I would definitely be down for High Republic figures of at least the Jedi. They haven't made figures from the books in ages though, not since the now legends New Jedi Order (love my Solo twins figures ) They did make a Dr Aphra series of figures though, so there is a possibility I guess.

Series wise, it definitely is a refreshing change of pace to see a well functioning, non-corrupt government in Star Wars and an enlightened Jedi.

That would be a great choice. I think they'll let the High Republic exist just in print for a while, but casting is fun so let's do it!

Avar Kriss - Jodi Whitaker
Loden Greatstorm - Idris Elba
Bell Zettifar - Niles Fitch (This Is Us)
Chancellor Lina Soh - Michelle Yeoh
‎Marchion Ro - Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Lourna Dee - Parker Posey

Its not only going to be in print. They're already making a D+ show set in the high republic. That's just the start tbh, wouldn't surprise me if either Taika's or Kevin Feige's SW film will be set in the High Republic.

That's right, I forgot about The Acolyte. There's so much to keep track of. It's a great time to be a Star Wars fan!

Let me know how you like Test of Courage. I didn't order it because I thought it would be for too young of a reader for me to enjoy.

I called a few comic book shops but they say the first and second printings of the comic are sold out. I've never enjoyed trying to read a digital book or comic on my iphone or chromebook, and those are all I have.

I didn't find out about the deluxe edition until the day before release or I would have gotten that one. That pin looks cool.

Comic wise, I'm planning to read it again after LOJ because I think it will make more sense. It deals with the aftermath of stuff. Not much action happens but it definitely seems to be laying the foundation for bigger stuff to come so I think it will be worthwhile to keep reading it.

Test of courage I've only read a little bit of so far but I'll let you know. I was skeptical of it being a "junior" book but so far it doesn't seem to too dumbed down.

I read comics on my Fire HD 10 (and before that, a TouchPad for years) and it works wonderfully for me. The 10" makes it the perfect size for comic and manga pages without having to zoom in and I just swipe to turn pages.. I have read comics on my laptop and phone but like you said its not great.

I plan to pre-order Out of the Shadows when audible actually lets me do it.

I have a 10" Kindle Fire that is perfect for digital comics. You can zoom in for close-ups at your choosing, or you can enable a kind of panel-by-panel scrolling view, or you can just view the full page.

Good time for digital comics too with DC Universe, Marvel Unlimited, Shonen Jump, Comixology...

I do digital magazines free from the library too.

Spoiler-y review for High Republic issue #1 comic:

I haven't finished Light of the Jedi yet, but I understand it makes sense to read this issue afterwards. And since the video above discusses spoilers, I haven't watched it yet, either.

There's a fairly involved reading order posted over on Reddit:

Quote:
Light of the Jedi – Chapters 1-2
Starlight: Go Together (From Star Wars Insider)
Light of the Jedi – Chapters 3-35, Interlude: The Council
A Test of Courage – Prologue, Chapters 1-14
Light of the Jedi – Chapters 36-43
A Test of Courage – Chapters 15-23, Epilogue
The High Republic: There Is No Peace, Part 1
Light of the Jedi – Chapter 44, The Enemy
This seems to be the most detailed account of when things happen to mimize the spoilers. Of course, I think it gets a little crazy to read books inside of other books so I would just recommend Light of the Jedi->Test of Courage->Comic.

I was really craving more High Republic, so I purchased A Test of Courage and the comic both digitally.

I enjoyed both, but I will probably stick with the adult and young adult novels.

I'll probably stick with the actual print copies too. Something about reading books and comics digitally I just don't like. Not sure why, I certainly read computer screens a whole lot.

February 2 can't come soon enough! Going to finally read Lost Stars while I wait.
