So Hayley Mills is back at the top of the charts with her just released memoir Forever Young - today #9 on the NYT nonfiction hardcover list. The book is sure to boost interest (or at least nostalgia) for her movies.
Yet we are still waiting for some of her most popular films on Blu-Ray (while others, even Pollyanna and The Parent Trap! are just plain hard-to-get due to Disney Movie Club), Still awaiting: That Darn Cat! The Moon-Spinners Summer Magic Tiger Bay Whistle Down the Wind Sky West and Crooked (Gypsy Girl) |

I'm still waiting for Twisted Nerve to get an official release here in Region A. I don't think it even got a DVD here.

Tiger Bay and Whistle Down the Wind are both devastating films that definitely deserve HD disc releases. In the meantime, there is a great HD transfer of the former on Criterion—one of their rare streaming-only releases. It looks fantastic, I bought it on Amazon.
Twisted Nerve has never been on Blu ray, has it? I can’t find evidence of a BD existing in any region. So yes, that should be on the list, too. And Deadly Strangers while we’re at it (the streams of it online look so dodgy, I refuse to even try watching it). |

My mom grew up a big fan of Hayley Mills, and so when she introduced me to her movies at an early age, I quickly became a big fan as well. I recently revisited The Moonspinners on DVD and was disappointed in how poor it looks. I would be happy to see any Hayley Mills films released on bluray, but that one is definitely at the top of my list. It’s a film that would probably look gorgeous in HD. I’m also excited to read her book!

Does anyone know what is the deal with Whistle Down the Wind?
It hasn't been available on home video in North America since VHS (Embassy Home Entertainment: The Janus Films Collection) - never Laserdisc, never DVD, never Blu-ray. Region 2 DVD is in Britain and other parts of the world -- with a long OOP Portuguese region-free w/English. Originally, Rank distributed in England - Pathé America in USA. Is there a legal problem? Hayley Mills, Alan Bates... what's not to love? Far more obscure (and less worthy) films show up every week! |

There is an upcoming Blu-ray release of Twisted Nerve (from Australian boutique label Umbrella), out at the end of April. But I'm hoping the States and UK get a release also.
In addition, is Deadly Strangers with ITV? That's been on my list of most wanted Blu-ray releases of films for a long time. |
