Would have to agree too. You can sometimes find some out of print releases lurking in the shop. Think they had the Severin Mardi Gras Massacre in stock which seemed to sell like hot cakes!

Of course next time there's a sale I'll look but I really don't buy many titles and am not into exploitation films in the main. (I don't own anything yet from VS).

I read a quick synopsis of Ebola Syndrome and I don't think it really appeals to me

Someone who's seen it in the last 25 years might correct my memory, but I recollect a scene of Anthony Wong raping a dead or dying woman while shouting "ebola, ebola".

Wait till Black Friday & get it then. Vinegar Syndrome have released some films that don't really count as exploitatio & there's also the Partner Labels with films that might be up yor street etc.

I knew Ebola Syndrome would pass uncut. For people who are unsure, it's actually a black comedy really; too outrageously OTT to be disturbing imo. It's rather amusing if watched in the right bad taste spirit. Bunman is the Anthony Wong one that presumably wouldn't pass uncut; that one does get rather disturbing in places. I recommend Ebola for those who enjoy a bit of bad taste humour; it's a truly demented bit of nasty fun.

In the climax, Anthony Wong holds a child hostage and starts spitting at cops with his Ebola-infected saliva like a Dilophosaur from Jurassic Park. It's extremely offensive but an absolute riot.

It really is worth overstating that Ebola Syndrome is only for those with the sickest sense of humour. The vast majority of viewers would likely be offended by it.

Unless you watch the movie without having a clue what you're putting on I don't think you would find it offensive. Most people likely view the film after having read or heard something about it so they would have a basic idea of what to expect. I last saw the movie on laserdisc in 1996 but I do own the VS release and will watch it at some point.

That's a good point. BBFC has a very long history of not liking horror films that do what they they are supposed to do, i.e. horrify.

Case in point: Mario Bava's Black Sunday, which was first denied a certificate, but then finally given one a whole eight years later. IIRC the then director of BBFC made the point that it could be released now (then) as the audience by 1968 was more likely to find it and its effects laughable than horrific.

I can't say I agree with all that. But you may be right. Time will tell.

I'm with @russwess1 here... I squeamed. I was disgusted. But I wasn't morally offended. The only thing I found really offensive was the overwrought performance by Anthony Chau-Sang Wong.

Ebola Syndrome is jolly good fun in all the right ways and, most definitely, many of the wrong ways. It's raunchy, and trashy, and vile, and twisted, and depraved, but it is so damn over the top with all of it that it can't help but play out in extremely comedic fashion.

Having said that, it's 2022. I'm sure some will be offended by it but, in my opinion, such a person would have to deliberately choose to ignore the ridiculous nature of the film and to take offense, instead.

I’m on the fence whether to get Drive in 4K or standard Blu-ray - I’ve never seen the film before and not sure how much benefit the 4K will bring.

Think I found a copy of one of the Le Chat Qui Fume BD releases of a Jess Franco film that Mondo Macabro ONLY released on DVD & this was after finding the other BD one on Amazon. Think BOTH had sold out from said French company.

Okay so to jump on the bandwagon a bit here but all the comments got me curious and I finally got around to watching Ebola Syndrome after being intrigued for a while.

Must say I found it absolutely hilarious. One of the funniest films I've seen in a long time and whilst Anthony Wong's performance was overwrought that just added to the whole spectacle for me.

As vile as the film is and it certainly is that, it is done in such an over the top obscene manner it was difficult to do anything but laugh - and I did.

I'm not well versed in Cat III films and generally don't care for Vinegar Syndrome as a label this was so much fun!

Does anybody have any other recommendations for me to try out given my enjoyment of this? I also enjoyed The Sadness a while back which seemed to be quite similar in many ways if I recall.

Also the transfer was stunning.

Any reason why you're not fond of Vinegar Syndrome?
