I noticed that this site has the 10 Yash Raj Films blu-rays on pre-order. There's even a release date of Oct. 27th, which is earlier than expected . Is that date accurate?

The "buy now" option links you to Bollywood Blu-Ray's site.

They managed to remaster the films so quick?

Makes you wonder how the movies will look and sound...

a big 'NO' to this quastion. this is not quick...
if u r a registered user on yrf they did a survey regarding blue ray and that was done in starting of 2008....
they started working on blue ray in 2008 and now they are releasing so we hope there would b no problem regarding remastering the print.........

I think it's funny that people (namely in America) have this mindset that movies SHOULD and DO take forever for a home video release.

Indian DVDs and now BDs only take a month from their release date depending. Things just move faster in that respect.

studios start working on the dvd/bluray of a movie even before the movie actually hits the cinemas.

that includes mastering the source material, special features & commentaries.

its not a small process & besides they need to make sure the publishing / packaging company is not overbooked. espcially in christmas/winter season, when most movies are released.

I believe the U.S. version is like an epic big box...I have the Indian release...just a typical YRF fold out cardboard case.

Haha yes we are. It's those little cardboard cases that fold out. I actually like them better.

Could someone check how subtitles are placed in Yash Raj movies. Is it similar to the original Indian blu-ray releases such as OSO, Heyy Bayy, Sivaji..... That is placed within the picture, scaled and well integrated. This is the trend in Hollywood for blu-rays. There are many good reasons for this trend.

Please check my post:

Given how these moveis have not been restored before and that the quantity is NOT small, I believe that one and three quarter year will be not enough. You are forgetting that there are several other things that have to be done along with the remastering of the blu.

And how many authoring studio is YRF using anyways?

This came in today from YRF.

----------
Dear All,

With reference to your queries on the Blu-ray, I am putting down the information.

1. We have released our film New York on Blu-ray recently. It is exclusively available along with Philips BRD Players in India through a strategic tie-up with them. It has been serviced to UK, USA and UAE through our regular distribution channels.

2. Our next 10 titles, already displayed on our website, will be released end November or early December as the process is very time consuming and we are making them with extra care on all quality aspects to give you best possible products. The authoring, glass master and the replication of these titles are being done outside India at one of the best facility in the world.

3. All our titles will have all regions playability and are BD50. They will have English, Arabic, Tamil and Telugu subtitles at 10 Bit resolution.

4. The picture (Film) will be full resolution (1920X1080P) high definition with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound along with additional Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound.

5. The special features are also included in few films, wherever we have them. However, these are in standard definition with Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Sound as these are recorded in this format and cannot be upgraded like a film.

6. We don’t have an online payment mechanism as of now. All buyers in India have the option to pre-book these titles in a special offer till 31.10.2009 as per the details given on our website. All these orders will be shipped out in India to reach you before the retail launch and with no additional delivery charges.

7. They would be available in key retail outlets in select cities in India after this and you can buy them from stores like Music World, Planet M, Crossword, Rhythm House (Mumbai) and many others.

8. All buyers outside India can contact my colleague Gaurav at gaurav@yashrajfilms.com for further information on local distributors in select countries, which can be contacted for info on Blu-ray products from time to time.

9. Any further queries on the technical specifications can be addressed to my colleague Victor at victor@yashrajfilms.com.

Here’s wishing you a very Happy Diwali.

Regards,

Vijay Kumar
Vice President
Home Entertainment & Music
-----------

No DTS master audio. I hope the films will look their best on BD.
