No problem mate. The girl in the background on the SE shot isn't even in the UE so they must have used different elements or it's been digitally altered. Odd considering it's a higher rated film at 15 versus 12.

Maybe when Goldeneye comes out on Blu-Ray they will fix the cropping issue. It would be nice if MGM really looked into the situation with the transfer. |

It does look now that when Goldeneye was sent to the menders it was an open matte edition ready for pan and scan. It reminds me of Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines. And that one gives me a headache.
Hopefully we'll get the proper framing but they might keep the UE. Last edited by chip75; 01-21-2011 at 08:59 PM. |

If it were "open matte", there'd be more picture top and bottom. The UE edition is cropped on all four sides, making it "zoom-boxed". Also, Goldeneye was filmed with anamorphic lenses, so (unlike Super35) there is no matte to open. What you see, at least on the older versions, is everything that was on the negative.

I like Pierce as Bond too. GoldenEye was hands down his best 007 movie. I hope it gets the BD treatment soon. It'll be a an instant buy as soon as it comes out for me.

I guess I am old enough, Diamonds Are Forever was the first Bond I saw during its run at the theaters, that I enjoy all of the Bonds pretty much equally for what they each brought to the role. For instance, I guess I was one of the 12 that liked Timothy Dalton. haha. He returned the role to its serious roots. And I really enjoyed what Pierce brought to the role. The only issue to me was his size. He comes across as a small guy. He's 6'1' but his build was on the thinnish side. And even though the Roger Moore movies didn't age as well, at the time, they were great entertainment and I still enjoy them. Craig, to me, is arguably the best. I guess because I really enjoy the Bourne series so much and the realism it brought to Bond.
I made a special effort to see Goldeneye in the theaters, I had fallen into the rental rut. The cut of the opening sequence, the jump off the dam briefly shown in the trailer, was so awesome, I had to see it on the big screen. |

I've never been too big on Brosnan-era Bond. I didn't mind Goldeneye...the others, however, I thought were pretty bad. I'd rather see On Her Majesty's Secret Service on BD before this one.
