What a surprise! This will be a double dip for sure

So now, where's Orgasmo, 88 Films?

It’s a (pleasant) surprise to see 88 Films embracing British genre films. The most interesting (to me) announcement from them in some while.

Honestly I am as surprised as you are. I double asked them, especially mentioning the animal violence scenes and was told that BBFC had not cut those scenes.

Oh, man, I really, really hope it is a new transfer of The Whip and The Body. The colours in the existing transfer are horrible, and as one of Mario Bava's most beautiful lit films, it really deserves so much better.

The current Blu-Ray is one of the darkest films in my collection. It looks dreadful.

I want The Sweet Body of Deborah.
It is a lot better than The Knife of Ice.

I've got the Screenbound release... One of the worst discs in my collection in terms of what it should look like vs. what it does. They tried to save it by regrading, but I think they just made it worse by raising already totally crushed blacks on that horrible master.

How is 88 Films packaging? Is it safe to order their limited editions from them, or should one rather buy from somewhere else?
Had bad experience last time (a couple months ago) ordering from them - despite the alleged IOSS was hit by custom. The IOSS registration and the IOSS sticker mean absolutely nothing, if the package was not declared electronically, and that's what customs people here say. There is no way to prove them right or wrong, since 88 Films just do not respond to any enquiries. Their customer service is basically nonexistent.

Amazon UK are giving me a terrible time with my orders for Species, Zeder and Dreadnaught and Knockabout (from Eureka). They're still on course to arrive next week (even though if I'd ordered yesterday on release day, the listing promises to arrive by Thursday with free shipping), and on top of that Amazon have done TWO pre-authorisations for every order. I got so angry I've cancelled all my 88 and Arrow preorders with them. I have to wait a week for those charges to be released but it's worth it that they don't get my money. Last month I ordered £100 worth of instock books (fulfilled by amazon) and had to wait 3 weeks for dispatch!

Anyway - of course I ordered my Arrow discs direct from them, but when oh when are 88 going to offer pre-orders in advance? I would much rather buy direct from them. I always get FOMO with their titles because I can't get my orders in much in advance.

I pre-ordered Dreadnaught and Knockabout as soon as they went live on Amazon, they are still preparing for despatch with a delivery date of this coming Saturday and the money has been pre-charged by Amazon since last Saturday

Looks like I was wrong about All the Souls ... not being one of those expensive hardbox editions. Oh well.

I miss the old format for Italian Collection releases.

Amazon are all over the place with pre-orders at the moment, my copies of Dreadnaught and Knoackabout arrived on time thankfully. But other pre-orders sometimes two weeks late, which is not what you want if it's a Limited Edition and could disappear.

Oh, man, sorry to hear that.

It's the same thing here in Denmark about the IOSS number. There was a period of grace, where the receiver could manually enter the IOSS number on post office's website, if you had it, and they would check it and let the package pass of everything was ok. But earlier this year, they changed it. Now the sender has to declare it electronically before the package is send. It doesn't matter if the sender is partaking in IOSS - if they haven't entered the data correctly online, the package will be hit with taxes or returned.

I get why this model is becoming more prevalent as margins get tighter, but on the other hand it's also pretty much stopped a lot of my blind buys. Ditto when we could get them on offer in HMV at 5 for £30. Those were the days, you could just blind buy with gay abandon at that price.

I'd settle for Dick Van Dyke coming in and redubbing Robert Duvall's lines to give Watson a more convincing English accent. Duvall's stunningly awful "Engolissshh" accent really is a disaster on an epic scale that has to be heard to be disbelieved, overemphasising syllables until sentences and even individual words either lose their meaning or become laughable exercises in translation: "Bahr twot doo yew meeyan, Hoems?" "Ay mussed bussell," or "Morrie Ahhttyy?" Just when you think you've mentally blocked it out of your head, he'll throw in another clanger like "Weir go-ng two Lun-dun!" to drag you out of the story. It makes Williamson's machine-gun diction sounding like a demented Dalek whenever in the throes of his craving seem restrained.

Ha! I always thought Duvall was being deliberately pompous in his line readings, just as Olivier was being overly dithering in his. To me, the movie is like the novel: an affectionate send-up of the genre, with everything pitched to the back row and tongues planted firmly in cheeks.

With Duvall it's hard to know (see also his demented Jack Watson - actor, not Doctor - impression in The Scarlet Letter). People I've spoken to who've worked with him all like him but describe him as being as mad as a box of frogs. With his wild mood swings and tendency to physical violence, Williamson was quite a handful as well so I can imagine neither being easy to keep in check on the set and possibly setting each other off.

Same here, the last time something similar happened I cancelled and placed another order - arrived the next day. Not going to risk it this time - doesn't bode well that they're both showing out of stock at Amazon...
