My #1 recommendation will always be The Untold Story. The Unearthed Films release is great, and there's a Cat III documentary on the disc that's worth the price of admission alone. Here's a few more great Cat III offerings that were recently released and are, imo, a lot of fun.

Just the films they put out aren't usually to my taste. Generally speaking I just don't like the "so bad it's good" type of films. Having said that I'm sure there are a few gems out there I would enjoy if I saw them. I have seen a couple and a couple more I want. I am interested in a couple from their partner label releases. Rebels of the neon god for instance I want to watch after seeing goodbye dragon Inn.

Also the prices being in the UK just seem ridiculous, I'm not region free either although I guess I could get a few 4ks but aren't they like 30£+ I'd rather pick up a few criterions or MoC or an indicator box set.

In terms of packaging, restorations, supplements, etc. I can recognise they do stunning work.

Thanks!

I've actually seen Riki-Oh and thought it was great fun too. Had a chance to pick up the Limited edition for 10 quid on amazon and didn't take it...Still kicking myself for that.

Will check out the other ones!!!

If it's the craziness you want, I would actually swap out Erotic Ghost Story for Erotic Ghost Story 2, which features yet another over the top Anthony Wong performance. EGS 1 is quite pedestrian in comparison. It REALLY doesn't matter if you haven't seen 1.

Only problem is 2 is only available on an expensive DVD or blu import, or, probably, "if you know where to look" (don't ask me where cos I wouldn't know - I've seen it at the cinema and have it somewhere on VCD).

I think Untold Story sticks out among these, as being a way nastier & less ott funny movie than the others. At least to me; watched Riki, Ebola & Untold more or less back to back, and found Untold darker & shocking. That's not to say, it doesn't have ott and funny parts too, but...

There is a LOT of intentional humour in Untold Story to be fair and, I would argue, it leans more towards being comedy (pitch black comedy, I'll grant you) for a good chunk of its running time. Even when he's cutting up his first victim is obviously played for laughs (slapping his ass with the meat clever, etc). I think the difference is the properly serious scenes in Untold Story (the family massacre, and when it basically turns into Prison On Fire) are just that - properly grim and serious, so they linger in the memory more than the general tone of the film.

From memory - and it's been yonks since I've seen them - Untold Story 2 (which also stars Anthony Wong, this time playing a different character and with a more restrained performance) is basically a retread of 1 with everything dialled down slightly (although I think I'm right in saying it was also a cat3 film), and Untold Story 3 is completely different (and NOT a cat3 film) - a police procedural about some youths who kill a loan shark, with the only link being Danny Lee playing the same character he played in 1. I remember 3 not having any humour in it at all, but various reviews I've read now to try and spark my memory mention it containing a lot of satire. Either I don't remember the satire, or it's a case of things not travelling too well from HK to UK.

In the UK, of the most well known/notorious cat3 films I would say Dr Lamb is one of the few that has very little in terms of "relief".

There are loads of other cat3 films that tick various boxes of course, but they're ones that have never made it (and probably never will make it) over to the UK, for one reason or another (I can't imagine Spike Drink Gang - which is one of those "rape is fun" films - ever creeping in).

Why are they charging P&P (£1.99) to a UK address? Thought P&P was free if over £20.

Most of that 10% off ONLY saves £1.31 after P&P is added.

I agree. Ebola is kind of repulsive in an over the top funny way. The Untold Story is just straight nasty, and kind of a tough watch. They play out pretty differently just based on the tone of the movie. Not to say Ebola isn't pretty mean, but I find it a much easier watch than The Untold Story. The flashback scene is particularly brutal.

I'm following 88 Films on the usual platforms but at no point have I seen adverts for the 1980 version of Maniac and Cannibal Holocaust, both of which are apparently coming later this year according to this site and pre-orders available on Amazon yet they're not listed on the 88 Films coming soon page.

Maybe someone jumped the gun.

No one jumped the gun. 88 Films is terrible about announcing things and listing them on their website. The titles are coming in late October / early November.
