Australia Australians searching for a region free player - LASER BD1000

Thanks to the help of some posters here on Bluray.com .... I managed to find a new Bluray player that is region free.

I got a Toshiba 4300 (Did return it) ... just to find out it is virtually impossible to make it region free. As I'm finding out with most Bluray players in the world.

I have no idea of the reliability of LASER ... but for now ... I do have a new player that will play my region "A" discs ... so ..... I'm happy.

So ... one poster said BIG W did carry it ... but was out of stock. But I live in the Northern Beaches of New South Wales .. and Warringah Mall's BIG W did have several in stock.

So ... for those who'd like to follow my footsteps ... here is a few minor details:

http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/d...blu-ray-player

Where it's got LASER plastered over to the right side - That does not exist on the actual player. And all the graphics in smaller font above ... that also does not exist on the actual player. It's very plain and basic.

The one thing I did not like .. there is no digital counter at all on this player. The only light .. or thing that lights up ... is a red/green light on the left edge of the player ... when it's in "Off" mode .. and "On" mode. Nothing else.

Now about being REGION FREE.

It's not region-free per se .... what it is ... you can go back and forth between "A" to "B" to "C".

It's region B by default.

You have to go page 35 of the instructions/manual .... that lays out instructions how to flip to region A .. etc.

But when you do ... You'll see 2 sections. One for DVD - Which is permanently set to "0". You don't have to ever touch that. On the bluray part .... It's not labeled "A" "B" "C" .. but "1" "2" and "4" .... and it appears .. that 1 is for A ... 2 is for B ... and 4 is for C ... I reckon.

And when you are done with playing a region A disc ... when you turn it back on .. it may default back to "B" .. and you have to go in again to change it. As that happened to me.

So ... I played my "Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty" bluray .. like a charm. Played some DVDs from various regions .. no problem. My region "B" Avatar ... a charm.

I'm happy with the picture and sound quality. I'm not a techy. So ... I'm sure .. some will find flaws .. .that I wouldn't know what to look for. But for me ... after playing multiple DVDs and Blurays .... seems fine for me.

So .... those of you .. searching for a simple player that can play your region A .. and possibly region C discs ..... perhaps this Laser player ... will suit you.

Wal-Mart

Laser doesn't seem to have a good reputation with regards endurance - seems they have a very short life-span before the bin.

Just purchased one from Kogan.com.au (cheaper on their website than their ebay shop)
The have one model for under $100 plus shipping.
I got another of theirs - $155 plus shipping - but is also ultra HD, 3D, 4K upscaling, 2 USB ports, 7.1 audio, DLNA and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Kogan website has details on how to unlock regions (free)
