I would love to see a non-action Expandables type James Bond movie with all the James Bond actors in one film. I would get a kick out of a movie revolving around some huge gala for former and current MI6 agents/staff in the countryside - just see how the characters are in old age, flirting with younger and older females, how they interact with each other. I would like it as a comedy because they are old and retired - nothing to fight for anymore - just enjoy their old age. And of course they could still have their gadgets but rather for practical uses in their old age, rather than for fighting bad guys.

This is, if you compare them to the literary Bond.

Watched Skyfall for a third time tonight to prepare for Spectre. It's such a beautifully bad movie.

Anyway, my Bond fandom started early, as I collected the VHS tapes when I was a teen and they were re-issued to go with Goldeneye. I wore those tapes out, they were some of my go-to entertainment. My favorite movies are the middle Connery stuff (From Russia through Thunderball) but I truly love them all, even the objectively bad ones like A View to a Kill or World is Not Enough. Die Another Day is probably my least favorite overall.

I am not a huge fan of the Craig era, but they are solid flicks. They just don't feel like Bond flicks to me. That's fair enough though, I got 20 movies in the style I like and it's good they tried new things. I hope to see a more Bond-style Bond movie again eventually, though.

Yeah, that's how I've reconciled my expectations of how I "see" Bond with this current era. I'm enjoying the ride - and am glad to see a general increase in prestige for the franchise - and I'm looking forward to a future interpretation of the character too.

It's great they've tried something a bit different, tonally at least, and it's been well received on the whole. The same thing for the entire lifespan of the franchise would be boring IMO.

TWINE introduced me to Garbage, which still remains my favorite band. I'm really trying not to get so excited finding another huge Garbage fan but if I start saying how awesome you are, hope you won't be blindsided.

The World is Not Enough is similar to my impression of Spectre in that it has some fantastic scenes but overall I thought it was kind of forgettable.

Hmm I've got a lot of opinions about Bond.

I think Tomorrow Never Dies is the best bond movie of all time for a lot of reasons. It encapsulates Bond's tragic past with women without going overboard on it, has the best gadgets ( remote car ), the best opening segment, the best stunts, a very good villain, and the most capable bond girl in the 2nd half of the movie. It's everything a good Bond movie should be.

People say Goldeneye was the best Brosnan movie and I agree that it's really good but I still prefer TND. On the other hand I agree Die Another Day is really bad, and Halle Berry terrible in it.

As far as the realistic bourne style of the recent movies, I think it worked well in Skyfall. But in Spectre when you have james bond stuck to a chair and use a dinky little drill when you could have done something more elaborate, the realism is too much - would have preferred having some fun with it.

I found the overall message and ending of Spectre very unbond-like. He throws his gun away because his woman-of-the-week asks him to, and they go off into the sunset. That's like the cast of Gilligan's island getting rescued... just isn't supposed to happen. It was also weird to suggest that Bond losing the women in his life was due to some villain and not an intrinsic part of his character & job.

I think Dalton was a great Bond and The Living Daylights has to be one of my favorites.

I'm interested in reading the newer Bond novels and wonder if anyone else would recommend any of the more recent ones.

I can't rank the Bond actors because I like them all for different reasons.

But I've given the films a go...

*****
From Russia with Love
Licence to Kill
Spectre

****
Casino Royale
Dr. No
Goldeneye
Goldfinger
The Living Daylights
Octopussy
Quantum of Solace
Thunderball
The World Is Not Enough

***
The Man with the Golden Gun
For Your Eyes Only
The Spy Who Loved Me
Tomorrow Never Dies
You Only Live Twice

**
Diamonds Are Forever
Die Another Day
Live and Let Die
Moonraker
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Skyfall
A View to a Kill

Opinions subject to change.

Wow, markgway, I didn't know you gave Spectre top marks. This makes me even more excited to see it today! (I've been avoiding the main thread this last week to keep from spoilers.)

Someone who's obsessed with Garbage and another who considers TND the best Bond movie ever? I'm on right now.

It's really difficult to rank the Bond movies, because I love them all. Even the ones that suck are still awesome, if you catch my drift. I know that Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Casino Royale are my favorites, and I also know that Die Another Day is my least favorite, but the others all fall in to that glorious middle ground area that defies ranking. I gave it a shot in my previous post, but that's just off the top of my head.

I wouldn't say it's the best ever. That's too far for me to go. I would easily say it is the most underrated of all. I honestly believe that Denise Richards casting is the main reason it gets so much hate. Yes, Richards as a nuclear physicist is ridiculous, but a miscast character does not make a movie bad.

I'm the same way. I know my favorites and least favorites, and the other 15 or so just kinda fall in between; the order changes every time I try to put a list together.

Why is there not a poll for fans to vote on their favorite James Bond movie?
