I got the OHMSS steelbook.

I never understood why they did those 9 and no others.
Those nine films all involved SPECTRE and Blofeld.

Those do look really nice I have to say. A shame they haven't released steelbooks for the rest of the movies - it would make a fantastic set.

Wow, the fact that I'm a serious fan of the films and still couldn't see that connection says everything about how random it was to choose those 9 titles and not do the whole series.

Interesting that they included FYEO, since EON legally couldn't use Blofeld's name in the brief teaser he appears in, due to the Kevin McClory rights dispute that was then still ongoing.

The Spectre/Blofeld connection between those 9 films is tenuous and arbitrary.

Casino Royale, Quantum and Skyfall don't even truly include Spectre. The first two feature a mysterious crime gang revealed to be called Quantum, while Skyfall has a solo villain. It was only in the film Spectre that all those villains were needlessly retconned in the most impressively clumsy manner as being part of Spectre, because EON had finally ironed out the McClory rights issue.

Threads like this make me super glad I'm not so anal!

Like others I would suggest the newest black or white box sets, but when the next one comes out it won't match. Of course they're going to make Bond movies until the sun explodes, so they're NEVER going to all match, unless you re-buy them all every time a new movie comes out. It's just something you have to accept.

Meh. I've got two actor collections, OHMSS steel, six gold sleeves, 3 '12 releases, and 3 '15 releases. I just care about the films, I could care less with how they're displayed.

I'm more than happy with the Bond 50 set, accompanied by standalone releases of Skyfall and Spectre. I've also got the unofficial flicks, but Casino Royale put me to sleep, and Never Say Never Again is a cinematic atrocity.

On a side note, I've also got On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Octopussy, Never Say Never Again (ugh), and A View to a Kill on LaserDisc. I did have most of them on video at one point, but I left most of my VHS collection behind when I moved out.

If you are a Bond fan/collector & do not have the Sony (2 disc) CASINO ROYALE Collectors Edition you should really make an effort to get one.
Imo, it has the best bonus material disc I have ever seen for any blu-ray presentation.

Lightbulb James Bond Collections & Releases

I also don't like to skip sequels, even if they're terrible (i.e. I want to own The Exorcist II just because I own the first and third, but I really hate that movie). This brings me to the topic of this thread.

I don't own any James Bond movie, and I'm pretty sure I'm not a giant fan of most of them. That being said, I can't just buy one of them; if I buy one, I need all of them. I've been trying to figure out if I wanted to get a collection or if I should just purchase each individual movie. What do you guys think? Will I get better extras if I buy the movies individually, or will I get the same extras with the collections? Are there any releases that I should particularly avoid?
I just have these!

Is there anything special I'm missing, thanks!?

As said already, except for Casino Royale they're all the same discs. Casino Royale had a 2-disc SE release with some supplements not on the single disc version originally released, or the revised single disc version in the newer collections.

Would that be this one?

For being such a unique release, at least as far as Bond films go, it's really not all that expensive.

I think it's because the exclusive extras are not all that amazing, a couple of featurettes and a Bond Girls doc that's available elsewhere, as I remember. I have it somewhere.

I think there was also some discussion about whether the Sony or the MGM reissue had better image or sound, I can't honestly remember, they look and sound pretty much the same to me.

Yeah the 2-disc has slightly better picture and audio. I don't import, so what I find silly is why the US has never released the "uncut" version of Casino Royale ever? I mean we're talking a few extra seconds difference if I recall and they could label it "Unrated" and thus probably easily get the double dippers.

What is uncut? Is it just a little more violent or something?

The bathroom scene at the beginning is about half a second longer, IIRC.

I own the James Bond Blu Ray set with the white cover. I am not impressed with it at all. It seemed very cheaply made. And judging from unboxing videos, the Ultimate Collection with the black slip case doesnt look much better.

The Bond 50 set looks better made, but I dont like the creative choices that were made. Having two movies for each page doesnt make any sense, and it cant stack on my shelf.

As stated earlier, the 9 steelbooks that were released in 2015 look absolutely gorgeous. I bought all 9 assuming the rest of the movies would be released in that design, but for some reason it hasnt happened. Some people are holding out hope the rest will be released for Bond 25, but I am not holding my breath.

Bond 25 has a release date for April 2020. Which means a new Blu ray set will most likely be announced by December 2019, and will release February 2020. Possibly 4k. Hopefully steelbooks of every movie will be released, either with new designs or the ones matching the designs of the 2015 steels. If Im not happy with the new blu ray set and they don't end up releasing steelbooks for all the movies, I will probably just buy the individual blu ray/4k amaray cases of each of the movies. Also, Im not really a fan of the Craig movies. So the bluray/4k box set will have to be very nice in order for me to buy it. So I am waiting very patiently for what they do for Bond 25.

I could be wrong, but I think the only individual Bond blu rays that are still in print are the ones with the large white border at the bottom. But you can download and print many of the past blu ray and dvd covers from this website. https://www.customaniacs.org/forum/

My favorite Bond home video covers are the 1995 VHS / early 2000s dvds . I wouldnt mind steelbooks that emulate that design.

For those who are completists. There are two alternate versions of THUNDERBALL. The CBS/FOX VHS used one version. All the MGM/UA releases use the other. There's a list out there of every THUNDERBALL release worldwide and which version is used.
