Laika tends to be technically impressive, but the stories and pacing are spotty, so not surprised it flopped. I’d still buy this in 3D though.

And I never heard of it. The first thought occurring to me was it being about Curly Q. Link, whom he said was the missing link of his family.

Hey Joe, you reminded me that it's about time they released the Three Stooges shorts on blu ray. All of them, not just the public domain ones. Upgrade!

As mild and generally unimpressive as Laika's use of 3D has been up to this point, I'd still buy this on 3D Blu-ray because 3D animation naturally always looks better in 3D than 2D.

But a flat release? Completely worthless.

Artistically impressive too. The films may be just a bit too eccentric to entice a wider audience, but that's what makes them great. I've been pleased to own all of their films on 3D-Bluray, so very disappointed to pass on this one entirely.

Count me among those bummed that I can't pair a 3D copy of this film with the previous 4 Laika releases. Didn't get to catch this in the theater but it was disappointing to see how badly this one flopped.

I get being bummed this isn't getting a 3D when their other films were but the normal Blu-ray would look perfectly fine.

Laika makes really artistic, clever films with amazing animation. At the same time, their very mild stereo 3D goals are not helping the 3D movement, to the point a number of their films look like 2D movies many times. I remember being in theaters, watching Paranorman, and being impressed by the scene with the autumn trees in the suburb, and then as the movie progressed, the 3D kept getting weaker to the point at the end, it was nearly a 2D film when the 3D should've been amping up instead. It made me feel like I wasted my money on seeing it in 3D, that's how weak the 3D was. When new 3D audiences see a film where it's barely 3D, they realize there's no point in paying extra to wear sunglasses in a theater, and many never give 3D another chance.

That's why it's so critical that each new 3D film at least aim for mostly medium 3D layers when appropriate, to at least let the audience experience the film in 3D. When it's too mild to the point you have to flip your glasses up to see if there's any double images onscreen, then it's a waste of 3D IMO.

I didn't see any 3D trailers for this film from what I remember, but did anyone see this in 3D, and is it a marked improvement over Laika's other mild 3D films? Missing Link looks like a funny film, but there were too many other films I was going to see at this time.

There were a few parts that benefited from 3D (I don't recall exactly which ones, but remember thinking several parts looked great from a 3D perspective). Overall, I don't think this is one that I'll miss that much if there isn't a 3D release.
Thanks Jabba.

Still annoyed and frankly bewildered by the distribution fiasco for this film. Filmed in native 3D, repeatedly advertised on posters and flyers as 3D, 3D trailers shown in cinemas and then not a single 3D showing of any kind in the whole region. Whatever one thinks of 3D generally or of Laika's 3D standards - it makes absolutely zero sense to me that they would invest so much time, effort and money, into natively shooting, frame-by-frame, this stop-motion animation with 3D cameras and then fail to release the 3D version either theatrically here or on blu-ray anywhere. It's mad, really.

That is crazy but then movie studios are nuts it seems. Especially when it comes to how they implement 3D.

Hi smaugone

From my curley to your shemp. Guess if asked why no Blu-ray, porcupine would say "ain't they stupid?" and Moe would say "look who's talking" and slap him in the face.

It flopped because it wasn't in any theaters.

There wasn't a single one near me that had this in 3D so I passed on it.

Now that I hear it's not getting a 3D home video release I will be passing on it again.

It was worth a shot I guess, they have limited edition Missing Link NIKE sneakers, so I figure a limited 3D Blu might be possible lol. At least they gave the thumbs up for 3D;

Hello,

thanks for the vote for 3D. We are currently making all our DVD plans for a July 23rd release. Keep watching
facebook for new announcements.

thanks

Subject: Missing Link Short Run 3D Blu Ray?

Hi,

Any chance you guys can do a short run of Missing Link on 3D Blu Ray? A lot of us still support and purchase 3D. Wondering if there's any chance to see this in 3D at home?

Thanks

Unfortunately Lionsgate are distributing so the likelihood of a 3D Blu-ray is very low indeed. They just don't want to make the effort to get our money.

If my dad was worth 35 Billion I'd be funding and distributing my own big budget movies lol. Seriously with that kind of money he could do what he wanted movie wise.
