Thanks for creating this thread. It's very useful having a thread that has all the different sales listed. Going to save this thread for further reference.

You certainly have a valid point, but Target's B2G1 sales do offer collectors the chance to get a lot of boutique Blu-rays at a very nice average cost per title, sometimes beating out certain boutique's own sales. It's up to OP whether to include it or not, I guess. Barnes & Noble's Criterion sales are included, but I realize those are still boutique-specific sales, whereas Target's B2G1 is a free-for-all.

Stop trying to justify Target being listed as a boutique!

I believe the OP's intent was for deals directly from the boutique studios/distributors themselves. Sure, mainstream retailers may ultimately sell their releases online, but I thought this was about sales from those boutiques directly.

Not my thread, so the OP can slap me down if I'm misunderstanding.

Just trying to see all sides here

You may be right. I'm fine with it either way -- it's an extremely useful thread with or without Target's inclusion. Seeing all the current and upcoming sales outlined in this fashion helps me visualize how I have to budget things throughout the year much better

I was just thinking of target being a place where one could get boutique films, not that target was both in itself

Amazon and Walmart are also "places" where you can purchase boutique titles (or anything).

Again, it's (I think) about purchasing directly...Not from corporate and/or second-hand sources.

I cannot explain my position any clearer, so it's up to each individual user to determine what "Boutique Sales" means. I'll leave it to the OP moving forward.

There's already an ongoing Target thread with all the B2G1 prior date listed in the OP so folks can get an idea of when the next sale will be -- good chance in 10 days

What's your position on MovieZyng's current WAC sale? Should be included/excluded from the thread? Or when B&N has their Criterion or Arrow sales? Do you include all corporate hacks or just the big ones?

I haven't paid any attention to that sale, but from my understanding, MovieZyng is just another retailer, like DeepDiscount. I've never ordered from them.

Should we embrace retailers (large or small), or focus on the actual folks (studios) creating the releases?

It's a debate neither you nor I will win. From my perspective, and since there are already threads for specific "retailers," I'd like to see a focus on purchasing directly from the independent studios/distributors...The places that create new titles, take the time to produce and release independent films, or remaster and release titles that the "major" studios can't bother with.

For example, I've been waiting for a release of Cloak and Dagger for over a decade. It's being released by Vinegar Syndrome (pre-ordered). VS is not a studio; they take what the studios don't care about, and they seem to be doing a pretty good job...For the fans!

So, to answer your ultimate question...I do not think that "B&N Criterion or Arrow sales" belong here (again, stated earlier), but I'd like to see more independent studios/titles reflected in the Hot Deals forum.

I'm with strumdogg on this one. Let's just keep it to distribitors own sales.

They are strictly sales for one distribution, not a buy whatever you want sale like Target does. And Target isn't even a percentage off sale like the rest of these but a b2g1.

I do think moviezyng should be included for warnerarchive if they are going to be the annual Warner archive sale company. Warner archive doesn't do their own sales anymore.

Fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree. And anybody can start a thread in the Hot Deals forum, if there is an ongoing boutique label sale without a thread, start one.

Funny coincidence...That was already happening before this "mega" thread was started, and it seemed to work. We'll see where this goes...

(No offense to the OP. I liked the idea. Looking forward to the execution. )

I can already hear someone typing about how:

"I never heard about the <insert studio here> sale!"

Quote:
Oh, that was posted in the Boutique Sales Megathread. Don't you follow that?
"No, I didn't know about that. I figured a big sale would have it's own thread."

Quote:
Nah. Everyone decided it should be in one single thread. Sucks for you, Dude!

I'm sure there will still be individual threads. This is just so we know we will be broke every month.

Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit. I hope my point got across.

Hopefully all the "this is what I ordered" (guilty ) and shipping update posts are confined to those threads and not here.
