Hello all in Galleryland,
I just picked a preamp from Goodwill. It is from Alternative Acoustics and sounds absolutely wonderful surpassing my current pre and the formidable Carver C-1. This thing is a beast at 19 inches wide and milled face plate. Here's some pics. All I can tell from the internet is the these most likely were made in in an audio shop Oregon. If anybody has any more info let me know.

Insides

Great score .................. I don't know anything about the brand, but it appears to be a dual mono design

Another great find at Goodwill!!!

I love the milled design and simplicity of it.

Which rig are you using it in?

Morning DRuss,
You are correct about the design definitely dual mono. I have been Googling my a$$ off and have only found a very limited amount of info on Alternative Acoustics. Apparently they were mostly known for their speaker designs. The guy who ran the place was known as "Stereo Dave".

Morning B13,
This thing is built like a tank. The milled face plate id 1/4" thick and the top and bottom plates are 3/16" thick. The knobs are milled solid aluminum. It was kind of beat up when I got it but I gave it a quick clean and a fresh coat of paint for the top and knobs. Once I heard it it immediately went into my stereo set up at home. The separation of the different instruments and spacious sound field are providing new and great detail to many a familiar LP. I was having so much fun last night that I spent hours listening to music. When I finally emerged everyone was sound asleep, even the dogs.

Seems like you lucked upon a diamond in the rough, a high end, hidden gem piece indeed! if it made its way straight into stereo set, I know it's definitely killer! Congrats again my friend!

You did a great job cleaning it up too man. I'd have figured it just came off the shelf new by looking at it. Well done!

I haven't had myself a jam session like that in a mintue. But right now I'm gettin down to some Marcus Miller & Victor Wooten

I'll see if I can do some research on my side ........ But I love the simplicity of the design and the short signal paths

Here's his story. I feel honored to have the opportunity to have one of his pieces of equipment.

Everything said in this homage points to the design of this preamp. What a lucky find.

That made for some very interesting reading ......... I'm gonna write them and see if they'd mod my pre-amps and what would it cost

Awesome score dude! That is a beautiful piece of equipment.

We have a Goodwill store 2 minutes from the house and sadly I never think to go in it.

You may have just changed my attitude about that.

Well after another Monday in the books I'm chilling and spinning one of my favorites, and Mr. DRuss's as well.

This new to me preamp is letting me hear detail I have never heard before.
