By 2026 in theory all the HDMI ports on all new A/V receivers including the entry level models well use 100% 8K compatible HDMI ports that are backwards compatible with 4K, 2K (1080P), 1080i, 720P, 480P, and 480i.

That'll be good to have, once there's some desirable content.
I watch the occaisional Baseball and Hockey games in 4K and it's fn awesome!
It's difficult to think that they could be in 8K at some point.
It'll probably be so lifelike that I'll be tempted to climb through the tv and get into one of the seats in the stadiums.
