I'd trade that bloated mess for Roma 4K and it's Dolby Atmos mix.

Agreed. The Rock is one of my all-time favourite films, it was actually my first Criterion purchase and the title that got me interested in Criterion initially. Looks like neither are 4K on Disney+, which is where I find a number of titles have gone 4K first.

Another I'd love to see in 4K, and ideally with a new Atmos mix, would be Pearl Harbor. Watched it a few months ago and it's a great looking film that I think would look fantastic with a 4K scan and boy would that be a great film for a new Atmos mix. Although I suppose we’re getting a little off-topic here since I can’t imagine Criterion would ever pick up Pearl Harbor.

I hope Zack Snyder gets to join the collection with Army of the Dead on 4K. And I donít even consider myself a Snyder stan.

I really didn't like the movie, but it would tickle me to no end to see Army of the Dead in the collection.

Same. I found it quite dumb. Couldn't get through it all the way.

Samsung was the primary latte that holder I believe, and since they donít even make 4K Players anymore, in addition to no longer having their primary studio partner (Fox), HDR10+ is likely dead outside of contract signed guarantees (minimum requirement of titles from studios, just like the 5 DTS DVDs Warner allowed back in the day).

When does Criterioon release their December titles? Wondering what the next batch of 4K’s might be.

They require every phone in the collection to be in focus, so sadly no dice

I'm curious if they're gonna roll out the rest they announced (The Red Shoes, A Hard Day's Night, The Piano) in December like they're doing in November or space them out after starting with a monster month. I feel people would be really disappointed if they dropped 4 and 3 in the first two months and then it dwindled down to 1 or 2 in the following months but maybe they have way more 4Ks ready to go after those 7 than I'm expecting

Hoping these all still get released in November and they just haven't dropped release dates yet, and then December will have a full new list of releases.

HDR10+ hasn’t caught on and won’t because Samsung created it with the sole purpose of avoiding the license costs for DV. Not only is DV the superior format, but there’s very little incentive for Sony and LG to help push their rival’s format. Panasonic is the only premium brand that supports both dynamic metadata formats but unfortunately they left the US market nearly a decade ago.

Aside from Samsung, Fox and Amazon are probably the biggest supporters of HDR10+. All the other major players are on board with DV+DA and that’s unlikely to change.

As for the consoles, there’s no technical limitation preventing Xbox One S/X, Series X and the PS5 from supporting DV for 4K Blu-ray. MS and Sony probably feel that the costs just aren’t worth it at this time especially since most people are streaming movies anyway.

There’s a chance that MS will add DV support for UHD in the coming years but I wouldn’t bet on it. MS did add DV support for gaming on the Series X/S though so you never know. I don’t see Sony supporting DV at all on the PS5 unfortunately.

It’s a bummer because these players are serviceable, and it’s hard to justify spending $400-500 on a quality standalone just for DV when the majority of UHDs don’t even have it.

The real excitement for me comes next month where we get new 4K UHD announcements that we haven't seen yet.

Tomorrow I mostly just expect the two UHD's left from the initial announcement, but would be great to see a surprise UHD added.

It's quite possible as "Uncut Gems" was added for November much to the surprise of many.

Apparently SACD, DVD-Audio, 3D, DV, & HDR10+ playback from discs is up in the air or never coming out on those two disc playing platforms.

Well damn....
Didnít know that the One X plays SACDs. Do all of the ones youíve tried have a Redbook layer? Because that would explain it. I doubt that the One X has the ability to play back DSD.
