Default 25 Days of Christmas/Holiday Movies (2022)

10th Annual 25 Days Of Christmas Movies!

Thanks everyone for being a part of this great event every year.

The goal is to watch 25 Holiday/Christmas themed movies or Tv shows starting December 1st through 25th. Every time you watch, post a rating and your thoughts on it. Anything counts as long as you consider it Holiday/Christmas themed and the movies don't have to be on Blu-ray. This should get everyone into the Christmas spirit and give us movie buffs ideas on movies we may not have seen.

I'm starting this early so feel free to begin any time and watch as many or as few as you like. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Happy Holidays And Enjoy Everyone!!!!

- Epic Disaster; one of the worst out there
- Tad under average (2.5 would make it an average viewing)
- Above average
- Great Highly Recommended
- Masterpiece!; one of the best

Smile 25 Days of Christmas/Holiday Movies (2022)

RUNNING TAB

*1ST TIME VIEWING

Cup of Tea Theatre

11/21 DVD SEINFELD The Pick set during the Christmas season, Jerry is dating a beautiful model and she sees him she thinks picking his nose from her taxi cab & Jerry in his car, when in actuality he was scratching
The Mom and Pop Store Elaine wins a radio contest for her boss Mr. Pitt, which secures him the honor of holding the Woody Woodpecker balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jerry inadvertently sabotages Pitt's dream of marching in the parade when he crashes Tim Whatley's Thanksgiving Eve party and knocks a pendant off a ledge, puncturing the balloon.
The Strike Frank Costanza invented his own holiday, Festivus, which includes such rituals as the "feats of strength" and "airing of grievances."
12/1 Planes, Trains and Automobiles A man must struggle to travel home for Thanksgiving, with an obnoxious slob of a shower ring salesman his only companion.
12/2 Jingle All the Way Christmas. It's the most magical time of year. But while many are bustling to find their children the perfect gifts, others aren't quite ready to adopt the holiday spirit. High-powered businessman Howard Langston loves his family, but he just can't seem to find enough time for wife Liz and son Jamie. But Howard will make it up to Jamie... he'll buy him the toy on every child's list to Santa -- and the hottest action figure of the season -- Turbo Man! Unfortunately, Howard if facing one BIG problem: It's Christmas Eve, and Turbo Man has been sold out since Thanksgiving! Howard's down-to-the-wire trek to find Turbo Man quickly turns into an odyssey wilder than he could have ever imagined. In the course of his seemingly endless Yuletide misadventures, he finds himself in a no-holds-barred fight-to-the-finish with a crazed postman named Myron, who is out to claim the last Turbo Man for his own kid.
12/3 Scrooged A contemporary comedy based on Charles Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol," focusing on a television executive who decides to exploit the holidays to boost ratings.
12/5 The Muppets Christmas Carol The Muppet characters tell their version of the classic tale of an old and bitter miser's redemption on Christmas Eve.
12/19 Enigma (The New Captain Scarlet) Sometimes the best Christmas episodes are those that are light on festive flavor but strong on all the elements that make that the regular episodes of that show such a success, and that’s Enigma all over. While not technically a Christmas episode in its own right, Enigma earns a spot on this list thanks in part to a scene that homages Captain Picard’s Nexus Christmas fantasy in Star Trek Generations, as Captain Scarlet finds himself in the family home of Captain Black and Destiny Angel in a potential alternate reality that sees them happily married with children – although some of Black’s parenting skills could do with some work.
“Those kids could do with some cake to quieten them down!” “That’s your answer to everything, isn’t it?”
This is however only a small part of the episode, which opens with a fast-paced sequence involving the Angels taking on a Mysteron spacecraft that then lands in the Australian outback. Upon entering the ship Captains Scarlet Blue Ochre and Grey find themselves in a Mysteron maze that seems to offer an end to the war of nerves between the Earth and Mars – or does it? From the breakneck opening battle scene to the Spectrum team’s investigation of the Mysteron spacecraft that raises more questions than it answers, Enigma is one of the finest episodes of a brutally underrated series.

12/23 Christmas Vacation It's Christmas time and the Griswolds are preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things never run smoothly for Clark, his wife Ellen and their two kids. Clark's continual bad luck is worsened by his obnoxious family guests, but he manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon.

The holiday season has arrived once again and it's that time for bright decorations, the scent of baked goods and the festive feel in the air along with a slew of holiday faves and new entries.

11/23:
*Annual Thanksgiving staples*
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
11/24:
Thanksgiving in the Land of Oz (1980) *First time viewing*
This was...unique to say the least. The story and the characters are not given any real time to develop, stuff is just dumped upon you and moves way too fast. It could've been something if this was given enough run time to be done proper. The animation is cheap looking but the voice work is decent and the songs aren't half bad.
The War at Home (1996) *First time viewing*
This is such an underrated film. Though it's a story of a soldier coming home and trying to adjust to a normal life after the Vietnam War but is damaged by the horrors of war, what made it worthwhile are the characters and the performances that bring them to life and the performances here are great across the board. It's an very engaging and truly heartbreaking film and it's worth checking out.
11/25:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
A Christmas Carol (1951)
An American Christmas Carol (1979)
11/26:
NEW CHRISTMAS STAPLE
The Berenstain Bears' Christmas Tree (1979)
11/27:
The Stingiest Man in Town (1978) *First time viewing* 1/2
A decent enough yet still enjoyable Rankin/Bass adaptation of A Christmas Carol. It felt a bit jarring with the story being heavily condensed to 45 minute plus runtime and felt some aspects missing but it overall got the crux of the story across. Walter Matthau did fine as Scrooge but nothing really memorable and the songs ranged from decent to good.
11/28:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
Yogi Bear's All-Star Christmas Caper (1982) 1/2
Christmas Comes to Pacland (1982) 1/2
11/29:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales (1979)
11/30:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
Bah, Humduck!: A Looney Tunes Christmas (2006)
12/1:
Violent Night (2022) *Theatrical viewing*
I really, really enjoyed this. If Die Hard, Home Alone, Bad Santa, Christmas Vacation and Fatman were put in a blender, this would be the result. It's a Christmas action flick that brings a lot of brutal and bloody, gory fights and set pieces but it's also a dark comedy with a lot of funny scenes and dialogue and it has a surprising amount of heart as well. David Harbour plays a different type of Santa Claus in this and he's really good here and John Leguizamo is really good in this too as the villain but the cast was good all around in this with Beverly D'Angelo playing a mom that's a complete opposite of Ellen Griswold. This is a thoroughly fun and entertaining Christmas flick and I cannot recommend this enough.
12/2:
The Night Before Christmas (1968) *First time viewing*
It's a blank yet decent enough special about the fictionalized account of the creation of the poem "Twas The Night Before Christmas" with Hanna-Barbera-ish animation and though the music in this was beautiful, putting the original poem to music never seem to work and this is another example of that.
12/3:
NIGHT OF CHRISTMAS STAPLES
Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1964)
It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown (1992)
12/4:
A Christmas Carol (1982) *First time viewing*
This animated version has to be one of the weakest adaptations of the Dickens' story I've ever seen. It felt totally lifeless and stale from the execution to the animation. It was kind of a struggle to get through it.
12/5:
The Gift of Winter (1974) *First time viewing*
Despite some really rough looking animation, a thin story and a sluggish pace, it has charm and weirdness to it that makes it worthwhile if you stick with it plus some funny voice acting that includes pre-Saturday Night Live work from Gilda Radner and Dan Akyroyd. The sequel, Witch's Night Out is a bit more polished all around though.
12/6:
Elf Bowling: The Movie (2007) *First time viewing*
I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to watch this one. This was utterly horrible in every possible way like the poor animation, crappy story and humor ranging from cringe to painfully unfunny, much of it is adult oriented and it not subtle. One of the worst Christmas movies I've ever seen.
12/7:
It's A Spongebob Christmas (2012)
12/8:
Jingle All The Way (2011) *First time viewing* 1/2
My first foray in the arena of Hallmark Channel Christmas programming. While the story is super basic, it's cute and adorable to watch with pretty stop motion animation.
12/9:
The Mean One (2022) *Theatrical viewing*
While being held back by its low budget shortcomings like the awful CGI blood, cheap looking anamorphic cinematography and overall cheapness in general to where it looks and feels like a made for TV movie, it is enjoyable as a parody of not just The Grinch but a parody of Lifetime/Hallmark Christmas movies as well that was quite humorous and David Howard Thorton was pretty good as "The Grinch".
12/10:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
Toy Tinkers (1949)
Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (1966)
12/11:
Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration (1987)
A fun Christmas special featuring some visually imaginative and delightful segments. The host segments are outright funny and my favorite of the entire special.
12/12:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
Christmas in Connecticut (1945)
The Year Without A Santa Claus (1974)
12/13:
Babar and Father Christmas (1986)
12/14:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
*New to UltraHD 4K*
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
Frosty The Snowman (1966)
12/15:
Casper's First Christmas (1979) *First time viewing* 1/2
An average time killing Hanna-Barbera crossover special with the usual Casper/Hanna-Barbera character shenanigans.
12/16:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
Trading Places (1983)
12/17:
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol (1962)
12/18:
I'll Be Seeing You (1944)
SpongeBob SquarePants: Season 8, Episode 26 "It's A Spongebob Christmas" (2012)
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
Miracle on 34th Street (1947) A 4K remaster would be nice for this because the current Blu-ray release hasn't hold up very well
12/19:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
White Christmas (1954)
12/20:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
A Christmas Carol (1984)
12/21:
Christmas Eve (1986)
12/22:
CHRISTMAS STAPLE
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) *New to UltraHD 4K*
12/23:
Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas (2014)
12/24:
CHRISTMAS EVE HORROR NIGHT
Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) *First time viewing*
A bit of a letdown for me but it's still entertaining enough. The first act drags too long and runs out of gas going into the third but the sweet spot is in the second act with some intense action and pacing. The premise wasn't fully realized and the potential for greatness was there.
Christmas Evil (aka You Better Watch Out) (1980)
Jack Frost (1997)
*15th Annual Christmas Eve viewing*
Black Christmas (1974) *New to 4K UltraHD*
12/25:
CHRISTMAS STAPLES
Scrooge (1970)
Die Hard (1988)
12/30:
Rudolph's Shiny New Year (1976)
12/31:
New Year's Evil (1980)

I'll be starting on Thanksgiving. I just blind bought Arthur Christmas along with the new upcoming Prancer film with James Cromwell coming at the end of the month so really looking forward to watching those along with the new 4K remasters for The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, Rudolph and Frosty.

Seasons Greetings everyone, looking forward to this year's contributions.

I started with this:

11/19/22: A Christmas Story Christmas (2022) 1/2 - First Time Watch.
Yes, it's a TRUE sequel to the 1983 movie. I watched the original for the first time in 2020 based on previous years recommendations and found it to be a charming film. But I enjoyed this one more, perhaps because it dealt with themes of aging and mortality something to which I can relate in middle age. Don't get me wrong it still has some of the fun and optimism of the original and that they were able to bring back a lot of the original cast really upped the nostalgia factor. All the actors including the kids did an excellent job IMO. This one is definitely is being added to the to the annual watch list.

I really want to watch this but don't want to have to subscribe to HBOmax for one film. Hopefully it will get a physical release someday.

11/23:

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1973)

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) *35th Anniversary*
Still holds up after these years and rightfully can be called a classic. I missed the Fathom screening for this earlier this month and heard that the recent 4K transfer isn't any good so I reverted back to the Blu-ray copy that has a solid transfer.

1. Planes, Trains And Automobiles

This is the ultimate Thanksgiving movie and one I've seen annually for many years now. I saw it late last night and it definitely got me in the mood for tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Whelp. Time to break out the Holiday flicks. And to start things out.................

Jack Frost (1997)

CG Snow Michael Keaton trying to reconnect with his family after dying? NAH, a psycho killer absorbed into snow and throwing puns around as he slaughters a small town is the better way to begin the celebrations! Watch for Shannon Elizabeth in an early role as an unfortunate victim of Jack's rampage while taking a bat- Wait, where is Jack's carrot nose?
