If that's the case, and all it needs is a new wheel, then great! Problem is, wouldn't I still need parts from another machine? Not sure what other Panasonic machines have compatible parts.

The 670 is roughly the same machine but securing parts is the big issue these days. If you found the right person they could probably rig up a new wheel and get it going.

You could try posting on LDDB and see if you get some input/suggestions over there.

I finally picked up my first anime LDs. Not my first choice for such but the price was too good to pass, especially compared to the extortionate prices people ask for them on ebay.

Also whatever the heck this is. Apparently it's the pervy scenes from a bunch of VNs?

Just got these two from a local (read: domestic) seller. Including my first PAL disc!

I just wish the sleeve was in a better shape. They both have a crushed corner but Jumanji is especially bad.

So I am thinking about relocating my Laserdiscs (approx 300) to the basement to help free up some space. It is unfinished and not heated, so is it a safe place for them given that it can get pretty chilly down there?

Buy some good quality plastic storage containers to protect them. They should be fine.

Basically if you store them properly and its a safe place for storing records then LDs should be similarly fine.

I've experienced a decent amount of rotters and don't recall nearly this many compared to over a decade ago. A lot of these I'm getting around to watching for the first time. Some of them don't have any signs of "rot" from just looking at the discs. There had been times over the years where I had to store them without air conditioning, high humidity, etc. Sony discs from the late 90s seem to be one of the major known problems because of a faulty plant and also old Discovision titles. But I've also had a lot of trouble with Image discs from the late 80s to early 90s. Not sure if my player's part of the problem. I've had several over the years and only one still works, a 1010 from like 1987. That's quite old original parts. I've also moved several times since then and so things like alighment are probably also subpar by now. It's just pretty expensive to find people who can operate on these things now, along with the players being heavy and expensive to ship. It's a fun format but probably not one I would recommend people to get into now for the first time as players are getting up there in age, parts more scarce, and very few repair techs. It might be more worthwhile for people who are handy with electronics and repair. Also, a lot of people have no idea how to ship/pack discs and players.

Article on turning a blu-ray player into a microscope....wondering if you could do something equally interesting with the laser assembly on a LD player??

On the last day of 2022, I finally decided to purchase a Laserdisc player. I got the Pioneer CLD-R5, which came without instructions or a remote, but it was guaranteed to work, and was given a 3-month warranty. I already had about 40 LDs though never had a player.

Hooked up to a 4K TV and having to zoom in on a non-anamorphic widescreen NTSC transfer really shows how far things have come over the decades, but finally glad to see some of these discs that I've had in my collection for a while just for artwork or for fun.

Since it didn't come with a remote, I couldn't switch between analog and digital audio tracks, but I found an old Pioneer LD remote for sale on Amazon for about $5. Took a chance, and with prime it arrived today on New Year's Day, and it works perfectly.

Nice score, manicsounds! Pretty much any Pioneer LD remote will work with any Pioneer player. I had 3 players plugged in at the same time and the remote would power them all on at once.

Enjoy your player. A bit surprised it came with a warranty. Where did you buy it from? I only ask because vintage tech like that normally does not come with a warranty unless it's from a reputable shop/tech.

It was from a second hand store and they had it marked as guaranteed to play and gave it a 3 month warranty. But now it's time to hunt down places that actually sell LDs, which are becoming harder to find...

Shouldn't be too difficult if you're located in Tokyo. Japan is the LaserDisc capitol of the world heh.

A sealed Sony e800 decoder just went up on eBay. Definitely a rare and unique opportunity if you're in the market for one or want a great backup.
