Ah, frig. I meant to order it last week and totally forgot. Hopefully they'll find a couple of extra copies in stock when March hits. Otherwise I'll start saving up now for when it hits eBay.

It's only a matter of time before Arrow announces a UHD. You could always wait for that version.

Cauldron usually makes more copies available when the movie is actually released.

I feel like Cauldron could've upped the print run much higher and still sold out, maybe not as quickly, but definitely sold out of it. This is a Fulci biggie. Still, good for them for the quick sellout. I plan on double dipping should there be a Euro release, which there very well could be.

There's going to be a "standard" US 4K release too, I thought. So we don't even have to wait for a foreign release, they'll probably make it available shortly after the actual release date if their previous LE sellouts are anything to go by.

Default The Collingswood Story and Crimes of the Black Cat

[Show spoiler]stretch the "found footage" conventions, as it includes music cues, etc. The ending takes an unexpected left turn that I feel raises more questions than it answers

There's a good number of special features on the Collingswood disc as well. The 1974 disc only includes a trailer and a single featurette.

[Show spoiler]THE COLLINGSWORTH STORY. I have to give it kudos for its concept, a webcam found-footage type film, 12 years before the superior UNFRIENDED and its even better sequel. This was early internet webcam stuff, so the simple look of their computer screens is sort of primitive, but that's the way it was. UNFRIENDED and others that came later were way more complex as far as that stuff goes, but at least COLLINGSWORTH tried it first, 3 years after BWP.

I thought the acting by the 2 leads was very good, and no complaints overall, as it also runs a brief 82 minutes (like 1974 did). But I have to be honest, pretty much NOTHING creepy happens for a good hour, just a lot of talk, and the back-story of what happened there years earlier. Unfortunately, that back-story isn't all that gripping, and by the time anything starts happening, I was already sort of checked out. It's also way too static for the majority of its runtime.

This is a sort of FF-film that I can admire for what it was trying to do, but less admire for the final product. The filmmaker obviously wanted to do something cool, and he did, but it just doesn't amount to much in the end. "1974" was also a convoluted plot where you weren't sure what was going on especially near the end, but it never bored, and definitely had more atmosphere than we have at Collingswood. Of course, Collingswood was made way earlier, but it just feels like another FF film to me, nothing that special. And the two UNFRIENDED films, and maybe there was another film set on the computer screen way later (?), that worked a 100 times better, so this one suffers big time in comparison to those. Maybe if I had seen it in 2002, but even then, I was a big fan of BWP in 1999, and this doesn't come anywhere close in dread or style to BWP.

I am still happy to have these two Cauldron releases. Both have pluses and minuses. I am not a big FF film fan, so many of them are terrible, and these two are not at the bottom, and I quite liked 1974 as mentioned above, mostly because of its atmosphere and the retro 70's look. The bundle of both was worth it, as they are attractively packaged in outer slipboxes and have inner postcards, too.

We shall see what's up next for Cauldron.....

I'm going to register what I suspect is a highly minority opinion and say that I think this is my favorite film and disc that Cauldron have put out yet.

[Show spoiler]Found footage is not something I'm passionate about, but UNFRIENDED has always been one of my favorites, and I'm really shocked at how well COLLINGSWORTH, years beforehand (and really in the infancy of the internet as a household item) intuited many of the most effective ideas that this particular found footage "cam" subgenre would come to rely on; the frames-within-frames, negative space, the meting out of a background mythology in certain digital relic ways, etc.

Also, and this is an entirely subjective and associational positive for me, but this particular mythology really reminded me of the horror fiction of Matthew Bartlett and his "Leeds mythos." Some of my favorite horror writing of the last decade.

A really eerie and effecting work, obviously very low budget but the director was operating with alot of good ideas here and pulled everything off impressively I thought. And I loved the Vera Madeleine character. Would love to see a spin-off movie on her!

Can't wait to sit down with 1974, hopefully tonight if the home situation permits. I know these releases seemed to get an ambivalent reaction when they were announced, but I say kudos, Cauldron!

Been a bit of a headache this, multi-quoting some of the posts in this thread about The Collingswood Story (have added a note in bold, so it makes sense (I don't normally do this, but this was an exceptional circumstance), after doing a thread search. But I'm glad I did it.

Re-considering getting Cauldron's Blu-ray release of The Collingswood Story, after having a look at the Mondo Digital review of it a few weeks ago (probably going to jinx it now (ie. it'll go out-of-print) as I can't get a copy yet). When it was announced, I had kind-of dismissed it. But something has changed in my thinking with this type of film and I've decided to take another look at it.

Also, still want to get a copy of Crimes of the Black Cat (standard edition still available).
