All I can say is...if you were NOT lucky to get the Blu/DVD combo at release years ago before it went OOP and got rare...Now you have a second chance at one of the 1980s most defining fantasy movies from George Lucas and Ron Howard both! I strongly recommend it as it's one of my favorite fantasy movies of all time. Vudu has confirmed the movie is MA enabled and has it for pre-order for the Digital for $19.99. If you order this for the Digital copy, sell the Blu (or vice versa) and you can get yourself a cheap copy of the movie for the format of your choice. Amazon is in the link above. There's currently no information on the A/V quality of the disk in the new version. While the old one was quite good, there was supposedly a new remaster done recently. IMO, wait for reviews of A/V quality on the new disk and use that to decide if you want to sell off the old disk or the new disk.* Last edited by TheLaughingMann; 12-22-2018 at 05:40 PM. |

Up to you. It's a tossup as to what the quality of this print is going to be. The old one was pretty solid for A/V quality. But if the new disk turns out to be an improvement, sell off the old one and recoup what you can. On the other hand, if it isn't, then sell the new disk off and keep the old one.
I'll see how the reviews of the quality of the new disk are before I decide which one to sell off. I don't care much for the DVD since it's pretty barebones. Plus, some people may think the artwork of the older version is superior because it isn't bastardized by the Multi-Screen Edition stamp at the top. |

And yet again I don't get why some individual items are moved here and others are left in the main thread?
??Pattern ? Preorder ? due to fact these are mainly full price and haven't discounted yet BN won't do coupons in preorder. I might check to see in the shiptohome 40% discount is applying like it seem to be for some preorders, but since it's Disney I'm guessing not. |

That may be an idea for some of you. The 2019 copies are already showing up on eBay and selling for $20-25 each. I spent $15 on the old one back at release. If I get least that much back, I'll be happy.

I did let a bunch of my friends know who don't own this and did not want to shell out the current high prices and they all pre-ordered at this price already. Like most here, I haven't even opened my previous copy. ![]() [Show spoiler]

What does "Multi-Screen Version" mean? Do I need to buy another TV to watch it?
Was the first release not in print for long? I feel like this movie should be priced like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I realize there's a huge nostalgia factor for this one, but I don't remember it being all that great when I saw it in the theater. |

2) It was in print for a time. The Blu-Ray released in early 2013, but late 2012 was when Disney announced it was buying Lucasfilm. My guess is that by the time the merger was done, many of Lucasfilm's properties got shut down for production in home media. The big ones Disney focused on was Star Wars, but I am guessing it didn't occur to them to consider Willow until recently. It was a pain in the butt to find on Digital too. I am willing to bet that they wanted to check the remaster Lucasfilms did, ensure it was up to par, and then digitize it so they could get the Digital market too. Because this release isn't just giving people a second chance at a great 80s fantasy movie. It's also Disney capitalizing on the Digital platform by doing this. 3) The movie's more unique than you may remember. The main hero isn't some typical cliche hero type. He's a dwarf. Secondly, many of the main roles in the movie belong to women but there isn't any big agenda being pushed. Third, it does show itself in a unique enough light to stand out because of how Lucasfilms had Star Wars to define doing special effects for the 80s. |

Although, I do impose upon those who own the original Blu-Ray...is it worth selling off the movie to get the Slipcover and Case with that horrid Multi-Screen Edition stamp on it? Because the original version's case seems so clean and presentable. I feel like I may as well buy the movie again for the Digital copy, then sell off the Blu-Ray only with the slipcover and case for a little bit of money. What do you think?

Lol any movie can be preoccupied by a date...except Princess Bride. That's as much a dating movie as it is a fantasy movie.
