I see people ordering on diabolik instead of direct through Cauldron. Is it just to order other stuff to bundle with it or is there some other advantage to doing that?

After Severin's release of Four Flies i had a gut feeling this release was going to be at least $50. Gonna have to really think about this one, might just wait for the standard edition.

Where are they going to fit all that stuff (poster, sticker sheet, etc.) if this is coming in a standard case? There's already 4 discs on this thing.

The CD soundtrack will have it's own case according to the listing on Cauldron's website.

CD soundtrack in separate custom sized wallet packaging with emboss and gloss effects (collectors note - packaging is approx. same size as a Blu-ray case) - limited edition only

I think it will be similar to the oversize cases that the Arrow releases use. Their limited edition of City of the Walking Dead is twice as thick as the standard edition.

So there's going to be 2 cases here? Also, "wallet" packaging and "same size as Blu-ray" don't make sense. I guess I'll have to wait until pics are revealed because I'm not picturing this thing properly.

"Custom sized wallet packaging" and "Blu-ray size case" for the CD is throwing me off a bit. My guess is it will be a 3-disc case with the poster and stickers on the left side where a booklet would go and the CD will have it's own standard size Blu-ray case or it will be housed in a cardboard sleeve similar to Grindhouse Releasing of The Beyond and Pieces.

I did the same, but just went ahead and put the order in direct at Cauldron. I was on the fence about Frankenstein '80, but took a gamble since there was no additional shipping charge on it.

At least for me, Diabolik doesn't charge tax, Cauldron does, so almost a $4 savings through Diabolik.

Well i caved and ordered. I was thinking about just waiting for the standard edition but this is my favorite Fulci film and i wanted the best release. Couldn't pass up the slipcase, reversible art, or soundtrack.

City of the Living Dead UHD pre-order special pricing extended:
Quote:
Due to numerous customer requests we have extended the special pre-order pricing on City of the Living Dead limited edition 4 disc (UHD, 2 Blu-rays, CD soundtrack + more!) offer until the end of the year, or until they sell out, whichever comes first. Based on sales, it is likely the latter.

Thanks to those that ordered so far!

With Pay in 4 as an option, I bit the bullet and grabbed this. That makes the sticker shock a bit less extreme... kind of. Still, it's a good flick and Cauldron has been solid with their releases so far.

Hmm. So we think the only things that are going to be dropped from a standard release are the soundtrack, slipcase, and reversible art? I'm definitely waiting for reviews and then buying the standard then. I really think most of this soundtrack is lackluster - you could barely fill 30 minutes with unique themes across Zombi/City of the Living Dead/House By the Cemetery. And the main theme that gets repeated 3000 times basically sounds like one of the main Goblin Dawn of the Dead themes, just the less interesting version. As far as Frizzi's Fulci scores are concerned, only The Beyond has something that justifies a full length soundtrack IMO.

I'm really glad they're doing a standard release later. Good on Cauldron for having that option available. I don't like blind-buying expensive editions much if it's something I'm not sure is going to be a huge upgrade from what I currently have.

Watched Convoy Busters today. First-time watch. I was never really into poliziotteschi much and this film is an example of why. As mindless entertainment, they're OK timewasters but, as far as police procedurals go, they more like unintentionally funny comedies. These films are products of their time and all that but I just kept nodding my head and going "Yeah, that would never happen in real life" For instance, maybe in Italy, cops are allowed to slap suspects around and beat them up but, no. Lol. Sting operations were so poorly planned and executed that I couldn't stop wincing. There's just too many goofy moments and dialogue to genuinely enjoy these as serious action movies. Maybe that's part of their charm? Perhaps, but, personally, I prefer my crime films a bit more polished.

The PQ was nothing to write home about. I've never seen this film before so I don't know its home video history but most of film looked very soft and undefined here. I'm sure Cauldron used the best possible element for their release and did the best they could.

There's a ton of great Italian crime films and this is not one of them. Sure, it has Maurizio Merli but there's great ones with him. All the Lenzi, DiLeo, Castellari, Martino ones are great.

You need to view them as what they are - bloodier and grittier knock-offs of Dirty Harry. You can't really take Dirty Harry flicks seriously either - they were fantasy reactions to the terrible crime wave of the 70s and 80s, when people lost faith in law enforcement's and the justice system's ability to keep violent criminals at bay.

Funny, as you're from NY. You should be used to hearing about it in real life, let alone how rampant it was from the 70's through the 90's when you were younger. I'm also from a big city and seeing it on screen in movies and remembering what time it was is as accurate as possible, no matter what country you are from.
