There are many complimentary professional reviews of this player out there. It was on my short list but ultimately I'm just an Onkyo fanboi.

As am I.

But didn't you mean reviews of this RECEIVER, not player, out there?

Thinking about getting this one but was wondering that since I also have a turntable that I would be planning to connect to via an external pre-amp, it would still work with this unit, correct?

I'd also be going for a 5.2.2 Atmos configuration. Both would work with this unit, right? Please advise.

The manual says this: "To connect a turntable that only has a PHONO output jack, you need to connect a phono equalizer (not supplied) between the turntable and this receiver".

The STR-DN1080 has two subwoofer jacks, so your existing set-up will fit perfectly.

Excellent. Just ordered it and Amazon will be delivering it tomorrow at no extra charge.

I finally got my 4K edition of Blade Runner, and the opening shots of the chimneys spouting fire caught me completely off-guard!

The bass was intense, and the placement precise - a perfect showcase for the STR-DN1080's Atmos capabilities.

Swearing and a hasty scramble for the remote instantly followed the surprise...

This might be an HDMI problem.

My one does a couple of odd things, though:

1) It will only turn of via the remote half of the time, leaving me to go over and switch it on from the unit. No, nothing wrong with the batteries or anything blocking the signal (it's line-of-sight) and is just a case of it not being bothered to do it.

2) When it does turn on, it's accompanied by a heavy "doyyyng" sound.

I don't get the "doyyyng" sound -- it just sounds like a loud switch going off -- when I turn it on/off.
