Dave Schulte was unable to complete the updates on my Emotiva ERC-3 CD player for delivery before we departed for our trip to Florida on Christmas Day. So, hopefully he will have the work completed and the CD player back in my hands soon after our return in January.

My Emotiva ERC-3 was delivered (shipped from David) on January 20. There is/was definitely an improvement in the overall sound of my system. But, it may be a little more subtle than the other components with the latest RFI/UMI paint. I will have to listen more to the system.

This moring I packed up and sent my OPPO UDP-205 UHD Blu-ray player for the same treatment. I believe it should be delivered on Friday. David has indicated that there should be a big change in the sound. I anticipate using it mainly for multichannel sound of movies, SACD, and DVD-A.

David has indicated that some (or at least one of his Patents) looks like it will be paying well. If it does as well as he suspects, he may be retiring and closing the Upgrade Compay. We will have to wait and see about that.

On Monday, David Schulte informed me that he had completed the latest work on my Oppo 205. Initially before the work he indicated that his Denon 5910 with the latest work and paint destroyed the performance of my upgraded Oppo 205. After the latest work, Dave has indicated that it is an entirely different animal and it destroyed the performance of his Denon 5910 with the latest work. He suspects that it will sound better than my Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC with the same latest work. I guess he would mean that he would expect the Oppo 205 with the latest work will sound better than my Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC and my Emotiva ERC-3 both with the latest work. He wants me to compare both options and let him know my observations and findings.

Dave shipped my upgraded Oppo 205 with the latest work today and it is expected to be delivered on Sunday, February 2 by the end of the day. Since Sunday is the Super Bowl, I may have to wait till next Monday to install and listen to the upgraded Oppo 205 with the latest work.

It should also be interesting to hear and possibly see any improvements with the system and UHD Blu-ray discs in particular.

I will report in soon after I get to listen.

My upgraded Oppo 205 was delivered on February 2.

My initial listening with the Oppo 205 with a CD was that it did not sound as good as the upgraded Emotiva ERC-3 CD player and the upgraded Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC all with the latest EMI/RFI paint. I spoke to David about this and he had confirmed the findings with his Emotiva ERC-3 CD player. He has attributed this to the simplicity of the Emotiva CD player and that it only plays CDs.

I have listened to a few movies with the Oppo 205 with the latest paint. I think and suspect that I am hearing an improvement with the audio and possibly with the video. As to the improvements in the Audio, I can only listen and make such an assessment upon what I remember from the unit before the latest work. But, I do believe that I am hearing more into the mixes and the sound does appear to be more open and revealing.

David had texted me yesterday regarding sending me his latest very expensive power cords with extremely expensive Furutech ends and a very expensive Coax cable. But, I declined at least for now since I couldn't afford them as my wife Carol just had surgery and what ever is not covered by Medicare and her supplement will need to be paid by me. Additionally, I need a procedure for my Dry Eye that is not covered by Medicare or my supplement insurance and I have to pay the entire amount. This procedure will be done at the end of this month.

I had noticed back in January that my most recently worked on upgraded Emotiva ERC-3 with the latest EMI/RFI paint applied by Dave Schulte appeared to be more subtle sounding than the other returned equipment. It appeared to demonstrate less bass, etc. I am not sure the last time that I ran my Purist Audio Design Luminist System Enhancer Burn-In & Demag CD-R disc for the system.

Yes it is expensive costing about $100 from Elusive Disc. But, to the best of my knowledge at this point, it is the best burn-in CD.

Anyway, rather than the 5 times that Purist Audio recommends (system had been burned in many times in the past), I only played the disc 3 times.

After running the disc the 3 times several weeks ago, the system and the Emotiva ERC-3 sounds better with more bass and more authority.

This was just delivered a short time ago and I played it for the first time:



I will have to listen to this more and I am sure that I will enjoy it more with time. The CD is extraordinarily well recorded, perhaps the best CD recording that I have ever heard and that is part of my collection. I can't say that others will like the music, but if your system is up to it you will be impressed by the recording quality.

At least for the first play through I noted a momentary loss of playback, possibly a CD misread, but it was just momentary.

I listened just with my best quality equipment, my all latest upgraded/modded CD player, DAC, Preamp, and Amp, playing through my Prototype OMA New Yorker speakers and only relying on the Acoustic Room Treatments. I believe that the speakers are supposed to reproduce music down to 30 Hz. Each speaker has 2 15" woofers and they did produce a lot of bass. But as a reviewer on-line suggested you should turn up the volume and listen with your Subwoofers turned on. But, my speakers will not put out the bass of my 2 18" Subwoofers that I would need to play through my system with my upgraded Marantz Pre-Pro and upgraded OPPO UDP-205 (instead of my even better performing Emotiva CD player and DAC). With the whole system playing the system would rely on the Acoustic Room Treatments as well as Audyssey but the audio performance would not be as good as my 2 channel system.

Anyway, this is something for fans of Jon Anderson to consider for their collection.

It is with great sadness that I have just learned of the passing of Alan White, long time drummer of my favorite band Yes (though more so in previous iterations). Alan is the third member of the band to have passed. Peter White was the first to have passed and original guitartist was in 2013. He was followed by Chris Squire- founding member and well known and extremely innovative Bass player who passed in 2015. And now Alan who passed yesterday.
