Australia Hellraiser: Bloodline

Confirmation:

This Blu-ray Disc is region-free. There is no 1080/50i or PAL content anywhere on the disc.

This is a solid encode of a problematic master, which was quite obviously done from a film print source, as cue blips come up at regular intervals. The Dimension Films logo is present on the film, and I would not be surprised if the image content is more or less identical to the US BD from Echo Bridge.

The audio plays as 5.1, but again, I would not be surprised if this were simply a slightly enhanced 2.0 mix. The surround activity is practically non-existent.

One oddity: The film ends a few seconds early, with the music cutting off and the final end credits not completing their scroll up the screen. There is then a black screen before the viewer is taken back to the animated menu. This makes me suspect that this error is present in the Miramax master and not the fault of Umbrella.

Umbrella does include a 4:3 trailer (1:31), presented in 1080p23.976. And when you return to the main menu after the film finishes, a small box with the disc production credits appears, which does not seem to be accessible in any other fashion.

If you like the film, this is probably the best version on sale now worldwide, but wait for it to go on sale.

When there was duplicates for this the wrong one must have been deleted, because I already input all the specs for it in the database.

I found there to be quite a lot of sound from the surround speakers, and the majority of it did sound like a genuine surround track, and not just a duplicated front left/right track.

I quickly chucked in my old Dimension US DVD, and it doesn't suddenly jump into the credits like the Blu-Ray, so it must have used a different master.

How long does it normally take for an order to ship from JB? I ordered it on the 9th, and the status still says "In Progress." Also, for any of you living in the U.S., once it does ship how long did it take to arrive? I only saw one shipping option.

Have you had a chance to compare this to the Japanese version to see which one is the best quality in terms of compression and bitrate? Thank you

Hi LordCrumb,

I must have missed your post before. When I have some time, I will re-check my copy, but I do not recall being very impressed with it. To be sure, it is 5.1 channels, but I did not think it was particularly effective.

No, the Japanese release is also a BD-25, and only includes an LPCM 2.0 track. It's also quite expensive, so it's not worth the cost of comparing.

Get the Umbrella BD.

Yeah, mate. I just jumped the wagon and bought the Hellraiser parts II, III and IV directly from Umbrella's site as they seem to have a sale going on. They are $10 Australian dollars per disc, that's about 50-80% cheaper than other online retailers in Australia are selling these titles for.

I've been reading through the forums here trying to find the best possible worldwide versions of these (seeing that I've got the Anchor Bay version of the first film which is possibly the best worldwide version).

Hoping the interlaced part III from Umbrella will still yield the best picture quality seeing that several members here say it's the same master as the Japanese disc and that one is regarded as the best transfer so far.

I do have the uncut Austrian steelbook with the first three films but was not particularly impressed with the image quality on parts II and III on that one and have been trying to find better versions since.

Do you also own part II and III from Umbrella, being able to confirm the transfer quality on those discs? Thank you!

The Umbrella version has literally the worst film artefacts I've ever seen on a BD. The only thing I can think of that's worse is Siren's old DVD of City Of The Living Dead.

I think im right in saying that the US disc doesn't even have the soundtrack in stereo nevermind 5.1. A film like this needs the audio to be up to scratch as well.

Is there any chance to order this Australian Blu-ray of "Hellraiser IV: Bloodline"? Was looking at Amazon, ebay and couldn't find it.
