Default Urusei Yatsura Movies/OVAs/TV Series

I was really happy when we got the 2nd movie released on Blu ray. I noticed the site has recently listed the other movies. I know this doesn't mean anything since they don't have release dates but at least it gives me hope.

Glad we are getting the TV show after we got all the movies though surprised they didn't release the OVAs before the show.

Well that is good to hear.

I wonder if the TV series and/or OAVs will get some love as well.

I hope Discotek can deliver both versions of the first movie, Only You. To my knowledge, the current Japanese BD is the Theatrical Cut, while all the previous DVDs were an Extended Cut. I'd really like to retire my U.S. AnimEigo DVD.

I seem to recall the BDs being criticized in Japan, though I don't read Japanese to know the details.

The movies other than 2 are cropped from 4:3 (and 2 uses an older master which doesn't look quite as good despite being in 4:3):

Also, Only You is the shorter version rather than the extended "no-cut" version that was on the R2 DVD, despite WB Japan advertising it as being the uncut version:

Hopefully Discotek can get the "no-cut" version, but I kinda doubt the licensors will let them have it.

Even if they can't get it in HD, it would be nice to see the Extended Cut included in SD as an extra (as Discotek did for the 4:3 version of Arcadia Of My Youth).

Or, to do as Shout Factory routinely does and splice in the extra scenes as "standard definition inserts". I'd hate to see the extended version that's floating around on a spleen somewhere wind-up as the best option for that cut.

I hope these do well as I'd love a complete series release. Even if it's in multiple parts, was never able to finish gathering all 50 volumes of the old AnimEgio releases.

It would be nice, yeah. I think you would have around 8 volumes. Which would be manageable if they priced similarly to the rest of Discoteks stuff.

I'd hope maybe 5 sets. That's 39 episodes per set, which is around the same amount Discotek had on their 4 set Fist of the North Star release which ranged between 36-42 per set.

Yeah, I would happily take 5 sets, but I think 8 is more realistic at ~24 eps a set.

I would be fine with 8 sets as long as the price range isn't too high.

Movie 5 was the best followed by 1 and 2. 6 was alright. I didn't like movie 3 that much and I know I've watched movie 4 but for the life of me, I can't remember what happens in it.

I've only ever watched 2+5 and have never really had a desire to watch the other ones after reading the plot summaries, so I will go with those being the best.

I think the first two are pretty good. I think 3&5 are decent. I find 6 extremely bland and soulless. I hate 4!

I've always liked it because not only does it have a good plot on it's own, it wraps up the series very nicely. Ive always hoped they would do a similar movie for the 2 last volumes of the Ranma manga in a similar fashion, but since Ive been waiting 25 years for that I'm not really holding my breath.
