United Kingdom We're still having theatrical films not getting Blu-ray releases!

Two of my favourite films from last year, Dope and Mistress America, are getting DVD only releases. Along with Me, Earl and the Dying Girl, these three films came out around the same time and appealed to a similar sort of audience yet none of them seem to have broken out to earn a HD disc release, and these aren't small foreign films, Me, Earl and Dope both got nationwide releases, and all were distributed by big studios like Sony and Fox.

It's really ridiculous and sadly now, it seems to be getting more and more common.

From the looks of it, I can't even see if Mistress America is getting a DVD release in the UK. I can only find it digitally.

This is also happening for Diary of a Teenage Girl, one of my favourites this year. It's a real shock that studios are still doing this, but sadly they are.

At least it has a DVD release and also a digital release with extras. That's better than nothing.

Sadly not just the UK. IFC in U.S. has recently released Queen of Earth DVD only for like $25. Mistress America is out on blu but is similarly expensive.

A Walk in the Woods too. Not a great film, granted - but visually beautiful, full of big names and had a pretty decent theatrical release.

So far there's only a dvd release for Woody Allen's Irrational Man. I don't see any blu-ray.

I'm still waiting for True Lies and The Abyss. Could be waiting forever though.

Spectacular Now and Snowpiercer are lacking releases full stop. I bet The End of the Tour suffers the same fate as well.

Ended up watching The Abyss on the DVD. Shame the aspect ratio is messed up with it being made for 4:3 TVs; would be an entirely different experience seeing it on Blu-Ray. Although some of the extras are quite dated - reading a screenplay off a TV screen, multi-angle VFX shots, pointless 30 second fragments of model shots - so it would be nice to see it streamlined onto one disk, with maybe a PDF of the screenplay and dropping a few of the more pointless extras. Although the time lapses and making of are great and I like the CGI menu of the underwater base.

It's not as it a 2015 DVD of a 2013 production shot in 3D is going to look like a piece of crap is it? Plus not buying on blu-ray saved me about £4, which is nice.
I believe this was released on blu in Australia so you could have imported it, I did just that with Midnight In Paris after it got a DVD-only release in the UK. If it's a film I want and the UK distributor only releases it on DVD, I'll only settle for it if there's no Region B friendly Australian or US release, otherwise they can shove it.

The fact that Me and Earl and The Dying Girl appear to not be getting a blu-ray release in this country makes me heartbroken, i adore that film and yet i cant own it on the medium i most enjoying watching movies on! Looks like i'm going to have to rely on imports...

I Origins has still not turned up on either DVD or Blu Ray in the UK.

No sign of Miss Julie or True Story either.

The November Man did not get a Blu Ray or DVD release last year. But this has been going on for years. Veronica Mars the Movie never got a Blu Ray in the UK sadly this seems something that the studios are happy to keep doing.

There a loads like this, I'm still surprised titles that were huge blockbusters back in their day like Crocodile Dundee, Three Men & a Baby, Twins, Look Who's Talking are still nowhere to be seen. When they came out, although I was a kid, I recall them being massively popular.

But that's under wish lists isn't it? This is more about recent films isn't it?

Snowpiecer I'm really surprised at. I have the US release, but see releases from all over and it's a really good film with some top British actors. It's clearly a 'mainstream' movie not 'indie' which makes this a surprise for me.

Still Life on received a DVD release but there has been an outstanding Japanese Blu Ray release worth tracking down.

most of the artsy cultured films take longer to come out on blu ray if they do, as sad as it is i am pretty sure that movies like the avengers will outsell mistress america, so for a studio i would guess they would prefer to put it out on dvd and based off the sales then they would get around to blu ray if they had an interest.
