can standard def be recorded to blu ray? - Blu-ray Forum

I want to know if standard def can be burned to a portion of blu ray.

An example of why I might use this is:

A television series that is 10 discs long can be as little as (with DL) 1 disc
With some editing out of intros as well as credits and added items i am looking at almost 20 discs on 1 DL disc or 2 1L discs. That is only if this is possible.

if that is the case then investing (when it becomes cheaper) in burning blu-ray discs is a definite yes

I am worried that it will try to upscale recordings so I.E. 3 GB of video becoms 4 GB of video.

If anyone knows the answer i would apprecieate a response.

Yes, absolutely you'll be able to record SD onto a Blu-ray disc. Sony has specifically stated that they'll release SD TV shows on Blu-ray and that they can fit numerous episodes on one disc.

That is awesome and would make traveling with a portable dvd player and like 3-4 discs carrying all of the movies and tv shows that I feel like watching

We expect for initial releases that the 'extras' will all be SD like they are on HD DVD.

BD is just a high-capacity format. You can put whatever you want on it. It doesn't have to be HD.

What would be cool is to have one BD with three or four SD movies that I won't bother to buy one by one on BD again.
