My next door neighbors came over to my theater tonight, they wanted to see some Ghost in the Shell, so we watched the original 1995 movie and GitS: Innocence back to back. I've seen the original movie at least dozen times, but believe it or not, this was my first full viewing of Innocence. We watched the Japanese Bandai LE of the first movie with the English dub, and the JP Absolute Edition of the second, so that movie was subtitle-only. Definitely much better subbed than that dub for the first movie. And Wow, was Innocence ever so very good, even better than the first movie. Our minds are all pretty much fried now after watching both of those together, lol. And Kenji's music, so haunting and powerful... I love it.

Any PQ comparisons between this new Japanese disc and the previous Japanese release of GITS 95? I have the old BD+DVD Bandai release and I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade. Bear in mind, I don't really care about the lossless English audio. I'm more interested in the removal of the windowboxing. Is the video simply zoomed from the previous release?

Agreed. The new Japanese Blu appears to be just a less-zoomed in version of the 2007 Japanese Blu. It's certainly an improvement though.

Except for the fuchsia tint. So either crushed blacks or incorrect colors, take your pick.

My hat's off to anyone still pestering them as I gave up a month ago resigned to the fact that they're not going to do anything to fix the releases.

I don't have it, but I think it's Region A locked? The page for the new Japanese release says its Region A locked, but I don't have it, so that's all I've found. (The page is the Blu-ray.com listing for it)
