Guess you really lowered your standards. So so streaming HD quality with ads is like watching TV broadcast it seems.

I'm curious.. when you guys talk about ads on your streams, you mean BEFORE the movie starts right?
It's not like a commercial in the middle of a TV program.

Prey shows up here in 4K DV with ATMOS ad free..

Most ads are 6 to 8 stop points during an episode or a film. Usually they are not like watching a series of ads at the beginning like Youtube then you don't have any. Examples in that manner are Vudu free content, Tubi, Vicki non user free content. It literally resembles the number of commercials in US broadcast although not as much time involved during that break in VoD playback.

I don't remember alchav ever describing streaming quality as anything other than superb, excellent, or fantastic.

Holy $hitake mushrooms...that changes everything!!!

I don't think we have anything like that up here. Now I get why some of you have, what I have up until now, considered an almost irrational aversion to ads.

Your providers INTERUPT the movie to play an ad????? That's unforgiveable... hnoes:

I think he learned a new adjective with "superb"; his favorite remains "fantastic."

His standards have not changed: cheap and convenient then as now. So long as the commercials look "fantastic" too, he's happy.

To tell you the truth IMO it's all Disc like Quality whether in UHD 4K or 1080P HD. I just enjoy the Movie or TV Show, Hulu does have some UHD 4K. Streaming is all Superbly Fantastic!

Back when Netflix had way higher bit rates as they do now, I remember the animated Croods being availbe to watch. So I thought even if it is HD if you see it on Blu-ray it’s got to look better. So I bought the disk, it was phenomenally brighter colors, higher contrast, and noticeable sharper. But if one just assumes what you are watching on streaming is about the same, you only fooling yourself. Goes for anything HD or 4K. I realize you are comfortable watching streaming, I watch a wide range of content but it’s never been equivalent to same resolution on disk.

If you enjoy it that's all that matters. That's really the point of it.

But if you think internet streaming video looks or sounds like a good UHD disc then you can't be trusted to comment on the quality of the presentation.

I agree and would go along with something like “streaming quality is good enough for me.” The rub is statements like “streaming quality is as good as disc” when the viewer is not even comparing title for title.

That poster will never respond to comments or questions like below.

Posted the following in the Zappiti Neo thread at AVS:

Quote:
Here is something some may want to try. Go to the Murideo site (here), look under ISF Patterns and click 4K to download. Unzip and place where your media players have access. I displayed the resolution pattern using my Oppo UDP-203, Sony UBP-X1000ES, Zidoo Z9X and Zappiti Neo on a Sony VPL-VW600ES projector.

Could not see any difference via the Oppo and Sony, on both the center and four outer wedges were fairly well displayed down to the inner circle. Via the Zidoo the wedges were not as well defined near the center circle as the Oppo and Sony. The Zappiti Neo was a little worse than the Zidoo.

The Sony does not do .BMP so I used Corel Photo Paint to save as a .PNG
In the process of figuring out the small differences in video levels between the Oppo, Zappiti and Zidoo. Also will try to track down why there can be a very short freeze when playing files from the Zappiti NAS or the Synology NAS.

Nobody likes Ads, but like I said the Ads for the Movie were only at the beginning then no more Ads. To me that's not bad, especially for you Disc Guys that get all that Junk at the beginning of your Movies. That's why I started to do Backups and got rid of all that Junk!

Also what do you guys think, Top Gun: Maverick Sinks Titanic. Does that mean Live Action Reality will Doom Super Hero Movies?

Don't know what your computer is built for, but mine's for gaming. I find those demanding games that it can't handle well pretty middling or bland in design. They're too expensive to produce now to be anything else, with very few exceptions. I don't even play most of the ones everyone talks about. The best in the last few years for me were probably Streets of Rage 4 (which runs on a potato), Resident Evil 2 (which I already played a bunch of times) and Half-Life: Alyx (and I'm not gonna borrow my brother's VR again to replay it). Whenever I think of upgrading, I stop and remember that I'd barely play any games. Maybe when the RTX 4000 series comes out I'll get a discounted 3070 or 3080. But I'm not itching for one. Fine reducing to 1080p if I have to.

You missed the point. At one time broadcast TV had an ad or two at the beginning of a 30 minute show, one or two around the 15 minute mark and two or three at the break. When I stopped CBS recordings a few years ago a 1 hour show only had a run time of 39 to 40 minutes. That’s means for each show nearly ⅓ of it is for really stupid ads.

Not for me, when I select a title a box pops up asking if I want the menu or direct to movie so most of the time I select No and the movie starts.

Why not tell it like it is. You rented or borrowed a disc and made a copy or purchased a disc, made a copy then sold the original disc. Thanks to you and people like you the studios put all that warning stuff on disc.

I have copied most all my CD’s (FLAC) some DVD’s and most Blu-ray’s to the Zappiti NAS or Synology NAS. But all that copied content still has a original disc version on my shelf. I do have quite a bit of MP3 music that was purchased from Amazon and most will have Amazon.COM Song ID: (numerical value) in the header details.

I built this computer for a variety of tasks and thus I wanted a machine that was able to do anything that I might ask of it today and tomorrow. I don't build a computer (for me) very often, about once a decade, so this one is meant to be a capable machine for a long time to come. Hopefully, I accomplished that with this build.

I don't own any of the popular resource hog games, but I want the ability to play such games should one of them catch my eye. At the moment the game that I am playing only requires a 1.0 ghz processor, 1 gb of ram, and a 128 Mb video card. I enjoy many games that require very little muscle to run, but even so I do not want to be limited by my hardware.

My two 32" monitors are only capable of 2560 x 1440 at 165 Hz, so I might have to upgrade them if one of those eye candy games grabs my interest, but I will always value the quality of a game over a slick presentation any day.

I do have a friend that is trying to get me to try that VR headset thingy offered by Hewlett Packard, but I REALLY dislike wearing any kind of headgear. I haven't even made peace with headphones yet, how would I tolerate one of these VR head buckets?

An ad or two before the movie begins, I can handle, but I hate commercial interruptions. They ruin the flow of the movie and they dispel the magic that a movie works so hard to create.

Discs with a lot of front loaded "junk" are annoying, but it is very easy to skip right past that crap either with the menu or chapter skip buttons or, in the worst case, the fast forward button. Thankfully, I don't encounter this very often or I have become so reflexively able to skip such stuff that I no longer notice it.

I only back-up movies that I strongly like and that are rare or that are likely to become OOP.

Seemingly, there is no known kryptonite that works against super hero movies. Live action reality (Top Gun: Maverick and Titanic have little connection to reality, btw) will never hurt them.

The only ads I ever see are images on the sides of websites. I haven't seen a video ad in 5 years (the last time I went to the theater).

All the ads on my discs are easily skippable so I never see more than a couple seconds.

Those interested in Black Phone, GRUV is the way to go. With the discount code SIGNUP20, it came out to be less than $20 with tax. Bummer there is no 4K at the moment, but this looks to be still worth it in my mind.
