What BS, show me ONE post where you have measured the data rates for streaming.

As to big improvements in streaming data rates, not happened. In 2016 Netflix was streaming at 16 Mbps as displayed on my Sony FMP-X10 media player.

As to digital lockers, there is a fair amount of difference between them for the same title. In general, Apple has the best but not always.

Funny how folks make a big deal about the difference between streaming at 15 Mbps vs 20 Mbps (1.3X, 33%) and make light of a 3X, 200% difference.

A poster at AVS (thread here) posted a chart of device type vs provider in terms of video and audio capabilities. Just shows what a CF streaming continues to be. As can be seen the ATV4K is the best all around. With the Refresh Rate app on the Shield I get matched frame rate on Prime and others.

What causes streamed video to look it’s playing back at the wrong frame rate? I noticed Pluto sometimes looks like the camera can’t keep up with fast movement. is this frame skipping or is it more complicated than that do you think?

I wouldn’t dream of watching films on it but I do watch repeats of tv series Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

Pluto and Tubi don't care about the quality of anything they use to sell you ads.

Aspect Radio ? Frame Rate ? ... Just watch these ads.

I do appriciate them for having all the bad shark movies ... I feel compelled to see them all.

Long story so will start with this article (which I have not read). In a nutshell, you have the source frame rate, device capabilities and display capabilities. An example, it was not until 2021 before Apple added integer frame rate to the ATV4K therefore prior to that 24 or 25 Hz content would drop frames (skip) because it only did 23.976. If a static shot you would never know but with horizontal pans it would be quite noticeable, well at least for some of us. Another would be a static shot with a car moving across the screen which would look like stop motion animation (well at least for some of us ).

CAUTION TO EVERYONE: Once you learn a how to spot a video aberration (or hear a audio aberration) you can not unlearn. So don't blame me.

Wow, kind of ticked that the Shield doesn't support HDR in YouTube and Hulu considering how much I paid for the Pro. Another reason why streaming is inferior in my opinion.

That's what you get when:

Best Buy closing a bunch of stores, further dwindling available physical stores for physical media.

Ordered only two tiles from CC's flash sale today:

Dazed and Confused
Adventures of Baron Munchausen

I would have bought more but most of the titles I wanted are still pre-orders.

Quite a few chain stores scheduled to close in 2023, here.

Just for the heck of it looked for Top Gun: Maverick on Blu-ray when I was in Best Buy recently. I eventually found it but was time consuming. About the same experience at Walmart. Just a few seconds to find at Amazon. For me, been buying disc by mail order since the early days of LD.

Probably 90% of purchases for me are online as well, but every now and then I pick something from a brick and mortar. I had an experience at BB that is definitely not the norm. They have You Are Not My Mother at a good price, so ordered it ahead of time since I have wanted to check it out. I go in and also went looking for M3GHAN since I remembered it was just released, and was approached by a guy less than 20 yrs old asking me if I needed help. I asked if M3GHAN was in the back since I didn’t see it on the floor yet, as I walked in right as they opened. He goes in the back and returns holding it above his head like it is a cherished lost treasure. He starts talking about the movie wondering if it is going to get a 4K release, and then we got into a debate about the Avatars and the Halloween reboots. Pretty refreshing to actually talk movies with an employee who was a fan and something I was not expecting.

I’m at 100% and have been for many years. Even if my family buy me a film as a present they do it online.

I purchase more online all the time. I do like to hit up the Dollar Store and just buy anything that looks watchable and if it's something good on DVD for example then I will try to find a better version after.

Sometimes my local stores just won't order any copies of something. Puss in Boots The Last Wish UHD BD is a recent example that was a challenge. My Best Buy ordered 2 copies for the store. Target and Walmart only stocked the Blu Ray and DVD editions.

Is it me or is this thread just not quite the same without Vilya posting in it? Still miss my cyber friends Kosty and Cliff Watson (both deceased).

I remember Cliff too. He was one to actually change things and make it possible to do things otherwise not possible.

For example his program guide as seen here...

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/cli.../#post-7370557

Of course we can never have the same thread without Vilya's input. His posts here are that of a definitive gentlemen and his enthusiasm is rare and wonderful.

I still have 3 MIT MDP-130 ATSC/QAM cards and the DVI daughter cards. Not used in a while now as we lost all interest in commercial broadcast. Was glad Terry Peterson took over for Cliff.

Always thought Vilya would have done well in a role as a diplomat.
