Rightstuf has just gone down hill over the years. Items are damaged way more than they used to be (yes, I mean minor damage, but it's still BS), returns are a major time consuming hassle. And, worst of all, the feeling of being a valued customer is just simply gone. My GA membership expired a couple of months ago, and I won't be re-upping for the first time in years. Like, just my orders over the past 15 or so years have probably amounted to a brand new vehicle in cost, but that doesn't seem to be recognized anymore.
Other retailers (like Best Buy) offer free shipping with easier pre-reqs, free returns, price matching, etc. Why deal with Rightstuf if they're going to treat me the same way Best Buy does? Last edited by Zaku77; 05-28-2020 at 10:04 PM. |

And Rightstuf does know how much you have spent with them, it's very easy for CS to pull it up.
I even asked them once what my total purchases were, and at the time it was over $12K.. It have been at least 5 yrs since than. So yeah, I would love to not have to go through what I just had to go through returning Domestic Girlfriend (and just for an exchange mind you) They're suppose to send me another one after they get the one I just sent back. Let's see how long it takes, I will be keeping tracking of the progress of the return shipping, and how long it takes to get the replacement sent out after they've received the defective one... I spend a few thousand dollars a year at RS easy, and I think i've only ever had an item only damaged in a minor way once.(Which was a minor bend on a cover of a book. And how that is RS's fault is beyond me. If you ask me, shipping services need to be held more accountable for the shit they do. As they are the ones at fault. They should pay the retailer for the replacement product. And even when you have insurance on shipments. Getting them to follow through and reimburse people is a nightmare) You can't possibly ask why a company like RS can't compete and offer the same kind of shipping perks that a company like Best Buy can. Which is orders of magnitude larger in scale in every way. Not even Amazon can eat the shipping costs any more, that's why things like Prime have more than doubled in price in the last decade, the minimum for free shipping has gone up and they've tried to start their own shipping business. It's not fair to ask them to to price match, offer free shipping all the time and free returns. They do not have the economy of scale to be able to offset that cost. As a reminder, I pay 120$ a year for Prime and I hardly ever even order stuff form them any more. You pay 120$ a year for free shipping and they just throw your shit in a box that's way too big for the item you order and fragile things almost always get busted somehow. My brother has had tons of books from Amazon and other online retailers come damaged in some way. They all pack their crap just as bad as Amazon. This reminds me I need to cancel prime. I barely use it. Meanwhile, I only ever spend the 50$ minimum to get free shipping from RS and i've never once had a poorly packed item. It's either a custom fit box that fits the item exactly or it's a box within a box wrapped in a few layers of packing material. When I have had to contact CS, never had any issues canceling or making modifications either. Last edited by BONKERS; 05-29-2020 at 12:57 AM. |

I can echo what everyone is saying here. All I ever hear is people bashing RACS like it's the antichrist or something yet I've never once had an issue. Granted I don't order from there frequently, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Items were always well packaged and shipped lightning fast. Prices aren't very competitive but they occasionally have decent sales. I just might consider RACS as an alternative once my GA runs dry. I certainly won't be renewing it after this unpleasantness.

I just recently found this thread due to my issuse with Domestic Girlfriend
I have gone back and started reading from the 1st Post with Gouki OMfreakingG what has Rightstuf become? ![]() Before this recent issuse with Domestic Girlfriend all I had to do is call them and I got an RA# right than and there, and if the issuse was something else it was still handle during that phone call. ( I had no idea it had been a couple of years since I last had to do a full blown return that needed an RA# ) Sometimes I didn't even have to return anything, I was sent the Disc, or case, or the whole damn thing without having to return what was received. ( that happened with a couple of low cost DVD/BD ) I did, just this night place a couple of more items on pre-order with Rightstuf, mainly as a way to help calm down my growing disillusion with them... I have this feeling that the next time I have to return something it's going to truly end my current relationship with them. I'd rather pay the extra at Amazon or other, but I really like both Amazons and ebay's policy ( I've not tried RAC yet ) No other place I have shopped at has ever asked for what Rightstuf has asked for in order to complete a return/exchange. RIGHTSTUF what have you become??? ![]() PS: There is no way that this new policy of thiers hasn't cost them customers Last edited by BWBODDY; 05-29-2020 at 01:05 AM. |

I remember RS had a lot of cheerleaders on Animeondvd back in the 2000s, but I was never a big fan. Even back then, you had to pay to join their club in order to get a better discount than some other online stores.
I also had a problem with a damaged item back then that I had to contact them multiple times in order to get a replacement. It was a booklet that was improperly inserted during manufacture so it wasn't exactly their fault, but it was a Pioneer release, and RS was handling their customer service anyway. Shawn first replied favorably, but then reneged and said that they don't replace items that weren't damaged during shipping or something like that, acting like he forgot his first email. I had to point out what he had previously said and go back and forth with him for a while to finally get my replacement booklet. I think the last time I bought something from them was 10+ years ago. |

I can't stand Amazon, because of their poor packaging and because they can't ship to my residence without screwing it up. 2 day shipping? Great! Ok if it comes a day later it doesn't bug me. Oh, I don't get my stuff for 2-3 weeks because their incompetent Amazon shippers keep leaving my packages at other people's residences? And Amazon reps sometimes cop an attitude with me? I still buy from them because they are basically a monopoly (though I try very hard to buy stuff from Target, Walmart and anyone else if I can), but now I pick up at the closest Amazon locker while dodging the homeless. Yay, Amazon. ![]() |

I've never had a bad experience with RS. I do recall back in 2014 I had a defective DVD disk; got a replacement sent and didn't have to return the disc. Last year I had another disc issue and got a replacement.
I suppose I've been fortunate that I've never had to replace the entire item (e.g. Blu-ray worked, DVD didn't) If I have a major complaint it's that years ago they changed Free Shipping for Canadians from $150+ US to $250+ US I've bought a lot more of my anime from Amazon Canada (and Amazon US) since. I occasionally buy from ebay but I've always wary of potential bootlegs. Amazon isn't perfect but I do appreciate the free shipping if sold by them directly or from third party sellers who offer it (or only charge a small reasonable fee) Amazon Japan has also been awesome the few times I've imported stuff. I'm also not thrilled that RS uses FedEx and asks you to overpay the total cost because of import taxes/fees which might actually be lower than estimated (currency exchange rate is already brutal) FedEx in general (UPS too) charge more than other options. I'm in no rush to receive my packages asap. I'd prefer to pay less on shipping since I'll probably receive it in the same amount of time anyway or would be willing to wait an extra week or 2. Even with discount sales, qualifying for free Canadian shipping and if I have a GA membership in the end I'm not really saving a substantial amount. Unless it's an Aniplex USA exclusive I really want (not officially sold anywhere else) or stock is slow to be listed elsewhere or doesn't even have a product page yet on Amazon Canada (e.g. new Discotek titles) I don't have as much incentive to buy from RS anymore. I'll also defend RACS. I've never bought from them before until earlier this year. Managed to buy an OOP Blu-ray that was sold out everywhere else. Although they offer FedEx I had my package sent with USPS (Canadian Air Mail). No BS additional charges. Second time I ordered unfortunately I choose FedEx and was charged which sucked. I suppose I'll give RS some credit for asking for the amount up front because it was an annoying process to have to phone FedEx (put on hold for an hour) and then give my CC info to a random employee. FedEx website is apparently too dumb to allow you to pay your fees online asap (like DHL does) for an in-transit package even if you've registered an account... Avoid FedEx whenever possible; lesson learned. USPS from now on! Only downside is when Canada Post gets involved and they're one of the most incompetent companies I've ever had to deal with (not an exaggeration!) Back to Anime Corner Store, for the second and third times I ordered from them I got a bunch of Sentai titles for around $20 each including some titles that are either sold out everywhere else or possibly out of print indefinitely. I actually felt I was getting a good deal here even with US prices and used a discount coupon from my last order to save a tiny bit more (non-eligible for free shipping coupon anyway) In the future I am planning to buy Riding Bean on Blu-ray from AnimEigo; apparently have this interesting piece of info Quote:
All American anime companies technically have rights for Canada too (explains the Canadian rating system on the back of the packaging). Seems like a lost opportunity that they don't all unite to have at least 1 Canadian HQ to rep them all and sell their products "domestically" so they aren't considered import items and Canadian anime fans won't keep getting taken advantage of. I ordered from the Funimation Store for the first time last year. Shipping was VERY slow but the items I bought were on sale so I don't regret the purchase. As a Premium Plus subscriber I also was eligible for free shipping (all Canadians are!) Might order from them again in the future, but Amazon is more convenient. I might try deepdiscount.com in the future. It's been almost 10 years but I remember I bought my Kenichi DVDs from them. Site had a major re-design since my last order (think my account is still active) but being based in Chicago, Illinois gives me hope that shipping across the border will be faster and less expensive than other options (RS in Iowa, RACS in Virginia, Funimation in Texas) Hard to believe there was a time when I would actually buy in-store (HMV, Future Shop, Best Buy) before I learned they charge more simply because they have to pay an employee to stock the shelves or sold DVDs and Blu-rays for the full MSRP... Their return polices were also difficult and you also don't know if some idiot customer (or employee) will rattle the case and damage/loosen the disc(s) or have it be crushed by another item stacked on top of it... My box set for the Ultra Edition of the G Gundam series arrived today, but I was dismayed to find the box it was in was seemingly smashed. I'm assuming something happened to it during shipping. When I finally got a look at the set itself, two of the corners have been crushed. I reached out to RightStuf about an exchange.

Aaah, I had one that looked worse than that from Rightstuf that the USPS jacked up,
I even Posted it somewhere on the Forum back when I got it. ( I had a pic of the jacked up box and the un-harmed items inside it ) I was going to repost it here, but it seems that those pics where part of the last pruge I made of my Picture Library ![]() I just knew something would come up and I would need some of the pics I had deleted, guess I'll think twice about what I delete in the future ![]() |

^^ While I appreciate you posting that vid of your packaging Jake surviving a fall, I think most problems that arise are from crushing more so than drops or similar reasons.
Packages tossed beneath items that weigh 10 times more, or possibly caught on a mail systems conveyor belt during processing or even crammed into a space it was never designed to fit. There's probably as many reasons as there are stars in the sky and I don't think any of us here are blaming flimsy boxes. All we ask, is that your CR believe us, when we say our expensive item arrived damaged. I don't personally know anyone (at least on this forum) that has so much time on their hands, that they thought it would be fun to spend their day fighting with a company CR over replacement of an item just for giggles. I also don't think we are talking about a corner bump or a scuffed slip here. Now I personally, have no issue providing a picture of the damaged item via email or whatever but when the conversation drops down into an argument during correspondence over, "well, you bought the discs not the box" is when tempers flare. |

Haven't used RightStuf in years, but I ordered from them about a week ago. No shipping notice or anything yet, and I can't log into an account since I did the guest checkout. Emailed customer service a few days ago and no response whatsoever.
Are they backlogged currently? Only ordered a couple discs and both were in stock (I also paid for the shipping) |
