No one should be killed or seriously harmed making movies. The first time it happens should be the last. Way to many issues that can be prevented with tech.

Everything moves in cycles. Yet the one thing that will always be there is greed and not understanding your customers.

For Hollywood, the swiftness of the descent into hard times proved especially wrenching. Since the days of the nickelodeon, the motion picture industry had considered itself immune from the normal cycles of boom and bust. When the crash hit, it was left cold-cocked by what industry veterans called “its first real churning in the economic maelstrom.”

I went to a Harkins for the first time today to see Shazam 2. Does anyone know if the posted showtime is when they start playing the actual movie? I entered the auditorium 15 minutes after the showtime and the movie had already started.

They show trailers at the start time, but usually only a very small amount.

3 or 4 trailers max, no commercials like AMC/Regal, and a short Coca-Cola/concessions ad.

On the foreign films (most smaller studio anime, Bollywood, etc.) there are often no trailers.

It's now been almost exactly about three years since I've been to the cinema. My routine changed so much. I used to go upwards of like 5x a week or so a few years ago. And I enjoyed going alone to morning and early afternoon showings when I had the schedule; it was so peaceful. But now I usually forget and don't care as much to go solo for evening screenings.

this might be one of the dumbest things said for many reasons.

it completely ignores the reasons behind what caused the accident, but you are also acting like some advocate for everyone providing a solution to a “problem” that is more easily solved by producers just not skimping on hiring the right people.

but ok. sure.

Yet it happens all the time, falls, collisions, helipter crashes. Should all of those be removed too?

It comes down to responsible management of the set.

My post was in response to what the other poster said based on the article. You can extrapolate it as needed though. We could use Twilight Zone the movie as an example of how things changed after a tragic accident.

Just use more CGI. Oh Wait! You don't want more CGI do you? No one gets hurt using CGI.

The Disney Stunt Person could have prevented this.

Cinema Stocks Jump Amid Report Apple Plans $1 Billion Theatrical Movie Push

The tech giant, whose movie slate includes Leonardo DiCaprio’s 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' looks set to follow Amazon and Netflix with its own play for box office.

Cinemas stocks got a boost Thursday after a report that Apple plans to splash $1 billion a year on producing movies that will be sent to theaters.

Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources, reported that the tech giant plans to release a few movies in theaters this year, while ramping up its theatrical slate for a greater number of releases in future years.

Shares in Cinemark closed at $13.24, up nearly 6 percent, after at one point trading at $13.88 on Thursday. Rival AMC Entertainment Holdings, parent of AMC Theatres, also jumped to an intra-day high of $4.66, before ending the day up 3 percent at $4.47 a-share.

Stock in Imax, which jumped to a high of $18.66 on Thursday morning after news of the $1 billion theatrical movie splash, ended the day up 2 percent at $17.98. And Canadian exhibition giant Cineplex saw its shares close at $8.00, up 4 percent, after reaching an intra-day high earlier in the day at $8.17.

Seems like it could be a marketing push.

As with Amazon, Apple is expected to use theaters to market upcoming releases on its Apple TV+ platform.

If Apple, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix released their movies in theaters, theaters wouldn't be as dependent on the big four studios. It would be a boom time for theaters. Even in LA, it's rare to see movies pack in audiences for weeks or months on end. People want variety - doubly-so for the AMC A-List or Regal Unlimited subscribers.

We'd have so many movies coming out that we wouldn't know what to do with them all.

Especially Netflix because they have such high-profile expensive movies and a wide variety of smaller movies targeting every last bit of the audience. But Netflix will be the last holdout because they're not into paying back-end salaries like royalties to actors and directors.
