I know it’d be a shame, I think it looks really promising, coming from someone who found the past two WDAS films underwhelming.

People should really stop listening to Grace Randolph. Her sole purpose in life seem to be to stir **** up.

I'm not really conflating anything that I am aware of. Again, those are labels and I'm hoping that studios get away from that. And it's not just about the LGBTGIF ( ). It's about anyone with some sort of characteristic or "label" that people zoom in and focus in on. It isn't about one layer. Or two even. It's about ALL the layers of a person. Stripping down someone to just one layer isn't really representation. You're just highlighting one aspect and overshadowing everything else. As for the photos, they're just kissing. There's no real indication that Snow White and Prince Charming end up marrying, doing the n---y, and being parents. As one example. Nothing is being implied or suggested. I think representation can be ok if it's done right. And not just to have some box ticked off. A great example of that would be Sulu in the last Star Trek movie. That felt so forced and tacked on. And it's a great example of ticking off a box. Same for the supposed same-sex scene in The Rise of Skywalker. Useless and not even representation. It's so shallow and I think that's the worst kind of representation. We are more than just one thing.

Today, Walt Disney Animation Studios released a teaser trailer and poster from the all-new feature film Strange World. Jake Gyllenhaal (The Guilty, Spider-Man: Far from Home) lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission.

A Disney movie that isn't a sequel, prequel, spin-off or remake?

Strange World, indeed...

Loving the 50s B-Movie aesthetic, and of course, space adventures are welcome in my book. This and Lightyear should be a delight to watch.

Watch you get the most posts in this thread for repeatedly saying how little hope you have in this being any good.

Looks fun and different from the latest slew of fairytale adjacent stuff, I’m hopeful.

I've been a huge fan of Disney's CG films since Tangled. The Frozen films are some of my favorite of all time and they kept putting out winner after winner. This....doesn't look so much.

This looks like a colossal step down from Raya and Encanto. It's clearly meant to be, but it really doesn't have that Atlantis (which played itself like a straightforward PG-13 action adventure movie in animated form) and Treasure Planet vibe.

Then again, might just be a really bad teaser. But it's a real stinkball of a teaser.

Despite it's premise it really comes across as a "meh, see it all before" vibe. It could be just the trailer but it doesn't have any sense of awe or adventure. The trailer also did a bad job of telling me what the story is actually all about

Disney Balks At “Anti-Consumer” French Windows: Will Bypass Theatrical On ‘Strange World’ In Market, Evaluate Future Films On Rolling Basis
Quote:
Disney is taking a stance versus the recently revised French windowing system, opting to bypass theatrical on animated action adventure Strange World in France and sending it directly to Disney Plus.

In a strongly-worded statement provided to Deadline, a studio spokesperson said: “Strange World will be available to all Disney+ subscribers in France, foregoing a French cinematic release. While we support French cinema — and have for decades — the new, cumbersome media chronology is anti-consumer, ignoring how behavior has evolved over the last several years and puts us at increased risk for piracy. We will continue to make decisions on a film-by-film basis and according to each market’s unique conditions.”

So they're worried about the increased risk of piracy. But then dump it on digital where it'll be pirated globally from day one in full HD. :/ ???

I don't think Disney knows how piracy works...

They didn't say the film will be released on Disney+ in France on the same date as it is released in theaters. It just means that there won't be a theatrical release in France and that French people will have to wait for when it's released on Disney+.

Piracy is a shitty excuse nonetheless for not wanting to respect a theatrical window before releasing it on a online.

Over the past few years, global piracy has become much quicker and easier (in HD/4K!) because of how randomly and early movies get dumped on streaming platforms all over the world.
