Default Snell and other lesser known brands

Are there any people out there that use Snell, Maggies, or other - less promoted speakers? I know we have one JM LABS user at least. Chime in folks!

I wish I had some maggies since most of those are catered to 2-channel, I doubt many do.... I'd like some apogee grands though..... and of course Thiel is still on the wish-list for my 2-channel setup..... (they have such rich bass..... I love them)

Saw a pair of Apogee grands finished in Gloss Black on Audiogon the other day! I think if you keep looking - you can have your Thiels before the end of this year - even if you've bought a new house! Thiels are always coming up on Audiogon!

The Grands are sold but they have a pair of mini-grands in walnut for $1600.00. Check this deal out - goes back to my other thread, but you would need a acoustically transparent screen to pull this one off! http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ull&1216572013

I have Quad....Famous for electrostats, regarded as the best speaker in the world, but I have their newer loudspeaker line called the L series. Beautiful crafted and even better sounding than they look, moderately priced as well. Check em out.http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/ranges.ph...=2&range_id=11

Bad link (at least for me.)

I've heard of them, but have not heard them.

This is by no means a slam - far from it, but did you know that Quad has been out-sourced to China? It's actually a compliment and testament to Quad for keeping up the productionstandard, even in China, because these new Quads have received good reviews!

I did know that before I bought them. I have a really great dealer who is very honest. They are not completely made in China though, I think just the drivers, the rest "I believe" is assembled in England still.

I used to own Martin Logan CLS IIZ, Request, SL3, Magnepan 1.6, Von Schweikert VR-4, Dunlavy SC-4. For me the best speaker from the one that had was Martin Logan CLS IIZ.

That's one of my dream speakers (CLS)! I found a pair for 1200.00 on audiogon but the person will not ship . Looking for something like that for my 2 channel system that I'm building in my daughter's old room (empty nest now)!

Wow... that's a good price!!! Is that price for CLS, CLS IIA, or CLS IIZ ? The latest version before they discountinued it was CLS IIZ. For me out of the speakers I had, ML CLS had the best midrange.

Be patient. They come up 3-4 times/year and sell comparatively cheaply. There's a devoted group of guys at the ML Club who believe that the CLS, paired with one or two subs, is the ultimate ML experience and one of the finest speakers ever made. The last A-gon pair went to the ML Club owner. Because they're straight panels, they may be driven with remarkably little power.

If you like, I'll keep an eye out.

It's an average price and one must be prepared to re-panel them @~$750/pair. ML's have legendary midrange and the CLS perhaps the best of all.

Those are all fairly well known speakers--especially among audiophiles. Meadowlark and lesser known brands get relatively little attention.

I have been using JM Labs for about 6 years and am very happy with them. I have a 5.1 set up of Cobalt Signature editions. Before i made the upgrade i spent 6 months listening to every speaker i could( Paradigm, Klipsch, B & W, Infinity, Kef and i am sure a couple of others) The speakers were all as close to the same price as i could keep them to make it fair and the Labs topped all by far. If you are looking for speakers, don't settle, seek them out.

Here's a wacky one which turned up as recommended by several folks in a "Best used speakers for $13K" thread, even though they cost "only" $7,900. I'd never heard of them until then.

Also, Salk Sound is getting tons of excellent press lately.
