There was a gentleman who, last spring, was selling maple 5's and maple c1 on ebay. I messaged him to ask a few questions about the speakers and it turns out, he had several fleets of Mirage speakers (hence the sale). We kept in touch for awhile and he mentioned a few times he had a sound engineer buddy of his replace the caps with high end stuff in a c2 and 28's. He said it made a world of difference in the quality of sound, which he also remarked, seemed impossible until he heard the results for himself. I suppose that isn't DIY, but an example of people out there changing out the caps.

I have a mint condition pair of OMD-15 for sale. I purchased from Vanns 2 years ago and I am the original owner. I have all original packaging and accessories. Pictures provided upon request. I am asking $600 shipped.

You know it's scary, ,,, do you still have contact with him?
If you do ask him what the caps model number that he use to replace the one in the speaker
omd 28. For sure it's not a DIY project.

We haven't spoke in awhile, but I do have his phone number. When I'm able, I'll see if I can get that information for you.

Default Mirage in-ceiling speakers

Does anyone know where or have, a pair of OC-65 speakers I can purchase?

I wasn't aware they had been discontinued (yeah pretty late on that one) and want to complete the pair of ceiling speakers I already have.

Actually, those cross over pics (especially those air core inductors) look a lot more impressive than what I've seen in any of my other speakers. I suppose it might be possible to upgrade the caps but need to see in detail the types that are in there.

These kind of things are definitely DIY level mods. There are people doing it all the time to JBL speakers on the Lansing Heritage site. The guys on the Carver site take modding to whole 'nother level.

First thing we need is a cross over schematic & parts list.

Hooked up one of my 28s to the center channel to see how it sounded, and it sounds pretty good! Unfortunately, the speaker has to sit next to the tv( unlike the c2, where the sound went straight up to the center of the tv screen) so the sound never seems to be coming from the screen, until I turned the speaker 45 degrees toward the tv. It sounded better, but the center of my screen is 36" from the floor, the speaker is 48" tall, with the sound extending to about 66" in the air. It may be impossible to implement the 28 in my setup and have it sound it's best. The c2 is definitely the best center speaker for me. Until I get a bigger house...

For what it's worth, when I replaced the tweeter module on my OMD C2, I thought the suspended housing was crying out for some internal damping. ..don't know if that may be a way to go too.

Another Mirage speaker sale going on at Woot. It's a 5day sale but the Mirage speakers tend to sell out (at least the quantity that is set aside for the sale).

I am really surprised !! When I opened my OMD 28 tweeters it was full of dumping material,.
is it because it is a center speaker ?
I have put a pictures in this site of the tweeter showing the yellow materials damping in the bottom housing and just under the dome tweeter, did you see it??

No I haven't. I didn't open the module but tapped it and at least the anchor arm seemed hollow.

Wow. But see how the arm is hollow, though nice and heavy cast, and will resonate.
I heard of a guy that uses some kind of blue goop to paint and coat the resonant inner parts of speakers and gets great results. On enjoy the music or positive feedback websites but I don't remember the details.

Also wonder how the OMD 15 , C1 and OMD 5 are made.

You know these speakers prices have dropped into a price range where a guy could afford to customize DIY a bit.

I asked my self the same question about the omd 15 !!!
you know the tweeter sound of the omd 15 is much clearer and you more present than the omd 28 tweeters, so I wonder if the tweeter of the omd 15 have a damping materials.

I agree, the 15's had a much more present and over the top sound, compared to the 28's. The voices in music, when played through those speakers, sounded like the vocalist was in the room, hovering over the listener. But, I didn't like that the rest of the instruments were pushed to the background. They were an awkward speaker, in retrospect. They just didn't sound natural. The 28's are much, much better in every way.

Really I had never realized that the others instruments sounds like pushed back.
Next time I will listen to them I will concentrate on this issue.
But still the question remain with no answer, does someone know if the omd 15 tweeters
have the damping materials as the omd 28 tweeters or not !!
