![]() Auro 3D has better sound quality then Dolby Atmos and DTS X and should be used on reference quality 100GB 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray movies and music titles While there are many movies that have been released in the commercial movie theaters using 11.1 and 13.1 Auro 3D audio technology, the Blu-ray format has not been releasing that many titles using the 7.1 PCM audio core that is needed for Auro 3D. Auro 3D can also work with 2.0 PCM and 5.1 PCM but 7.1 PCM core is ideal for the best Auro 3D experience. Currently the problem with having 3 different audio formats to choose from on 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray (Dolby Atmos, DTS X, and Auro 3D), is that each system has different speaker placement requirements. Therefore, consumers need to compromise in their speaker setup in order to use all 3 different audio formats. …”Dolby Atmos works with top loudspeakers at 45 to 55 degree elevation”s, and …”Auro-3D uses an average 30-degree elevation.” Hopefully the movie studios that release 4K Blu-ray discs well start using 100GB discs with 7.1 PCM core audio and Auro 3D immerse audio. There are A/V receivers from Denon and Marantz that offer all 3 audio formats including Auro 3D. Yamaha plans on offering a firmware update to some of their A/V receivers so that they offer Auro 3D. Currently Pioneer does not offer Auro 3D on their A/V receivers (maybe in the future). And remember even old year 2008 Pioneer Elite A/V receivers and other brands can playback the 7.1 PCM core audio that is being sent over HDMI from the Blu-ray player. So consumers with old equipment could enjoy their 7.1 surround sound setup until they upgrade to 11.1 to 26.1 Auro 3D. On pages 22,24, and 26-35 there is a excellent article in the July/August 2021 Widescreen Review magazine called “One Loudspeaker Layout For All Immersive Audio formats”. In that article it mentions why Auro 3D is a much better audio format when compared to Dolby Atmos and DTS X. https://www.auro-3d.com/system/ https://www.widescreenreview.com/ Last edited by HDTV1080P; 08-29-2021 at 06:13 AM. |

Your Sony A/V receiver if its a HDMI model in the last 13 years should support 7.1 PCM or 5.1 PCM core audio. In the future if you upgraded your A/V receiver and wanted 11.1 to 26.1 channel object based audio you woudl be able to do so using the existing Blu-ray discs that one rents or purhases using Auro 3D. |

Auro 3D A/V receivers that support 13.2 are already on the consumer market. More brands and models are to come. In order for Auro 3D to be successful like 13.1 Dolby Atmos and 11.1 DTS X, more Blu-ray titles need to use 7.1 PCM core audio with Auro 3D encoded soundtracks.

Just for clarification in case someone is not aware. In order to use Dolby Atmos, DTS X Pro, and Auro 3D one needs to place their Blu-ray player on bitstream for audio. 99.9% of Blu-ray players and 4K Blu-ray players well work with bitstream (even some of the 2006 first generation Blu-ray player models). Then if the A/V receiver supports Dolby Atmos, DTS X Pro, and Auro 3D, those audio formats well automatically engage and playback. However, for example if one owns an old 13 year old year 2008 Pioneer Elite 7.1 channel A/V receiver, then core 7.1 Dolby TrueHD, or core 7.1 DTS-HD Master audio, or core 7.1 PCM plays back. Auro 3D core audio is 7.1 PCM.

There is also some USA Blu-ray releases that use Auro 3D. George McCrae: Love uses 9.1 Auro 3D. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Georg...lu-ray/153664/ 9.1 Auro 3D is also used on the Aelita Blu-ray title which is a USA release. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Mando...lu-ray/112916/ Off topic comment, I see that Regal offers movies in 4FX4 with motion seats and other environmental effects. https://www.regmovies.com/4dx#/ |
