Sorry to hear about your familyís losses and your Dad. Project is probably a good distraction at times. Room is coming along nicely!

Answer: 1. satisfaction of doing the job I/you want done!

2. Knowing I can learn and build something better than what I was quoted ($30000) at the same time adding value to my home. Using the savings to buy furniture and equipment for this build. I am no where near $30K.

I have to walk away for while, sometimes days. Busy job, wife time, and caring for parents (we had 2 deaths in family during this build) and my dad is not well.
Exactly this. If I got my room done by a contractor with all the "specialties" I have like Green Glue, Putty pads, Sound clips, Acoustic panels, specially built ATMOS soundproof speaker boxes, etc, it would of cost me 50k - 60k apparently. It cost me a total of $17k and my time. That and the satisfaction of knowing how hard I worked and built A to Z myself.

My brother's pissed because he got a contractor and did none of what I did, and it cost him an arm and a leg to get done....and you still hear the sound upstairs. Told him I'd help him initially but he wanted to get it done. You never know what corners a contractor's going to cut.

Arrived on August 28. Covered because I am still working. Got $3000 off price. Is motorized, electric headrest, electric lumbar, 11000 leather? Led cup holders, fold down tray with ac plug and 2 USB, magnetic phone charger and 2 USB on each arm rest. Deep storage in armrests, plus the bottom of each seat has blue led lights.
Nice! Can't wait to see them.

Absolutely, I am at $11K right now and I have “advanced” features as well….coffered ceiling, wallpaper wall, now stone feature.

There is a hell-ov-a lot of satisfaction in doing it yourself!

And for those seeing this, if you lack confidence a build goes a long way to building it up!

Default AV Rack and Fireplace

Completed Novik Stone wall for fireplace and av rack. Novik stone is great because it uses a starter strip and can be cut easily with miter saw, circular saw or jigsaw. I held it in with 1 1/4 drywall screws into studs for each piece at least 1 screw.

This is directly adjacent to the MLP so remote signal won’t be compromised.

Holds up really well.

Used 2 1/2 inch casing to complete a total of 5 pieces.

Now up to $11.6K

Default Stairs cased Out

I cased out the rest of the stairs using 2 1/2 inch baseboards cut at 22.5 degrees. I wanted to keep a continuity so it looked like the baseboards flowed up or down the stairs continuously.

I bought the valencia tuscany console edition.

I decided to put some covers on mine, and they are a pain to keep up with.

Wow, nice seating.

Where did you find the covers?

Nice theater to.

They are some plain ole Recliner Slipcovers I found on Amazon. Comfy as heck, but a pain to honest... lol

They are designed for a single recliner, where the arm rest on both sides would be covered. Since I have the console edition which doesn't have armrest on both sides of the person sitting, I need to tuck in the side without the armrest. I would trim it instead of tucking, but tucking it helps with keeping it in place.

Default Post Conundrum

Started base for posts. Unfortunately between the time of construction and now, something happened? The posts warped. I remember squaring them off.

Looking at good side.

Anyways have to deal with the present, they are warped.

Used 1x6x8 pine and trim to make look straighter. On the top the gap was too wide if I made the mouldings straight and I wouldn’t be able to fill it and have it look decent.

So I opted to have a much lesser degree of crookedness as seen in picture. May use corner mouldings, not sure yet.

Yeah wood tends to warp over time especially in areas like a basement. A little caulking around the baseboards and you won't even notice a thing. Looking good!

Default Top of posts completed

Completed both Post tops, I went simple as the warp in each post would not look great with more mouldings.

Kept it simple for top of posts. Now have to paint and caulk.
