If it wasn't CG, what was it? I think some kind of practical effect, lava-like goop, was used for Chris Pratt's scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but Mustafar would require a lot of that goop.

Lava! I'm sure I wrote a couple of posts back that the lava was filmed during location shooting...

If you want to find out exactly where it was filmed, check out JW Rinzler's excellent book on the making of the film. There may well be mention of it on the RoTS DVD documentary, too.

Bruh. You don't even know.

During my viewing of TFA the scene where Rey opens the treasure chest and it revealed Luke's lightsaber, the audience went ape shit

To be fair, some of those chip bags can be pretty hard to open.

Give it up. The lava was CG where it mattered. A few composited shots of real lava does not equal "Ewan and Hayden fought in and around actual lava from a volcano." Which insurance company would willingly sign off on such nonsense?

We can take this to PM if you prefer. I'll show you what a real jerk looks like.

No, the actors didn't actually battle among the lava flows on the Sicilian volcano.
But it was used for plate photography to create the battle scene on Mustafar between Obi-Wan and Anakin in "Revenge of the Sith."

And how many more CGI shots are there in that one single prequel film compared to the original trilogy?

Even if there were a lot of practical effects used in the Prequels the films still look like bad video games.

OK, back to trashing The Last Jedi...

Combination of practical effects, real shots of Mt Etna volcano erupting photographed by Ron Fricke, and CGI lava (in shots closer to the actors).
