Hey all, got my PS3 soon after launch,Im a hardcore gamer and big into films too. I've about 250 dvds I'd like to sell, only a few blu-rays but looking forward to getting more.
some of my favorite films are 2001: A Space Odyssey, La Haine, Adam & Paul, A Clockwork Orange, American Psycho and Koyaanisqatsi.
I'm Irish and living in Shannon, Co. Clare.

looking forward to getting 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Universe Collection on blu-ray.

Hello Everyone. I'm Jason. I have been coming to Blu-Ray.com for a little over a year. (Since I got my PS3) but I only recently joined after realizing there is volume upon volume of informative posts here about one of my new favorite subjects; Home Theater and the addictions that go along with them.

I look forward to learning from folks here; I have a lot to learn.

UPGRADE-ITIS is what got me here to begin with! Without that, I'd still be watching 8mm movies and listening to my Mono "High-Fi" system a like I did in the 60's.

Since my newbie posts aren't being shown on the rest of the forums yet, I'll give it a shot here. I have some questions about SD Cards and the Profile 1.1 player I just purchased to get my feet wet in BR.

The manual for my new el-cheapo Magnavox NB500MGX (Profile 1.1) player does an extremely poor job of explaining the use and purpose of an SD card. It does say that the SD Card can be used for "JPEG, picture-in-picture commentary, subtitles or other extras for BD-ROM Profile 1 ver.1.1". However, it doesn't say a word about whether or not an SD Card is required or how the additional content is supposed to get on the card to begin with.

I've read the specification for a 1.1 player, and it says it that 256 MB of persistent memory capability required in order to qualify as a 1.1 player, so I'm assuming that the SD Card would fill this role. But how? Does the Movie automatically place some content onto the SD Card when it is first loaded? Do I have to go to a website and download the additional content and place it on the SD Card prior to watching the movie? Does having an SD Card in the slot enable the PIP if the movie contains that feature? In general, I think the whole 1.1 specification and the practical use of "persistent" memory like an SD Card needs further explanation. Anyone willing to jump in with some practical usage SD Card instructions/examples for this (or any) Profile 1.1 player?

Thanks in Advance

Hi.

Is it weird that I would join this board, and I don't even have a Blu-ray player yet?

Nope, not at all.

People join to get info about blu-ray before investing in it and info about HDTV's, the PS3, home theater, etc. often

Welcome.

Welcome.
Well said Diesel and completely true. There isn't a site out there that can help and assist as well as we can regarding the entire Blu-ray experience. Some of the knowledge our members have blows me away. And even as a member with decent knowledge I find myself learning every time I come online.

Do you remember any "key words" in that reply? If so, try to find that post by using the search function on the upper right corner.

Hi, all. I just joined the Blu Ray world last week with a Samsung BD-P1600. I'm loving it so far.

The first movie I watched was Close Encounters of the Third Kind -- my favorite film of all time -- and it blew me away.

Now I just need to wrestle the TV away from my daughter so I can watch more movies.
