Both have pros and cons. UK and US have a different colour pallet too.

Is the Canadian combo pack edition the same as the US release, except for being bilingual packaging? Both seem to have a 2.0 DTS Master track and the proper 2.35 ratio. I own the cut UK edition, but would like to own both.

US edition must be OOP because I can't find it for under $30. I want the film, but I don't want to pay ridiculous prices. It's not available on Blu where I live, so I'm paying for postage too.

Purchased a mint copy of the 2 disc Canadian Edition at a FYE store in SoCal today - priced at $7.94

I believe this is a title where there are two different Canadian releases, one of which is notoriously crappy and one of which is identical to the US. The bad one has a reddish cover, the good one has a bluish cover, and that should be the "2-disc" (Blu-ray + DVD).

Thanks, yes its the 'bluish' cover set I purchased. The cover is identical to the US release except for a French print under the title. The other differences with the US release are, it says 'a Peter Jackson film' on the cover and that it includes a DVD as well

I was a bit unclear, I meant the contents of the disc are identical, so yeah it sounds like you got the right one. In which case nice deal! I got it for something like $8-10 from Second Spin a year ago, hoping it would be the American but not minding because this release is just as good.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies; I grew up watching it and loving it. I missed out on getting the Blu-ray, and really wish it would get a new release. I'd love to see the Criterion Collection give it the proper treatment it deserves. I'm not really willing to spent upward of $50 on the Miramax Blu-ray, especially given that it has no bonus features, so I'm clinging to the DVD edition for the foreseeable future (unless I happen to come across a reasonably-priced Blu-ray).

Peter Jackson is restoring all of his early films including Heavenly Creatures. He plans to release them on disc too. He owns them.

Wow, I did not know this—that is fantastic news. I'll gladly hold out then for a new restoration. I didn't realize Jackson owned the distribution rights to all his films.

Everything up to "Heavenly Creatures" (inclusive). I wouldn't expect he'll ever own any of the films from "The Frighteners" up, those were expensive studio productions.

Just so you know, Jackson first said he was restoring his films back when he was promoting The Lovely Bones and here we are 11 years later, still waiting for them.

Lol. I don't remember adding the "(Great Peter Jackson film)" in the title heading.

That's not entirely true. Peter Jackson has been talking about doing special editions for his early movies since "The Frighteners" was being prepped for laserdisc, well over 20 years ago. But the ownership of the films reverting to Jackson and his opinion on the current state of restoration technology is relatively recent.

It's all talk. Here I go chiming in for the hundredth time at least, just hoping Jackson will make me look like a fool and eat my words by finally doing it, but over the last 10+ years, I'm not looking stupid (for this at least). Really thought it would happen when I bought Dead Alive on blu right as itwas going OOP, nope!

2 things I am absolutely positive will never happen in blu-ray, or any disc format:
Jackson's early films revisited
James Cameron putting out The Abyss and/or True Lies.

Maybe somewhere down the road in time our children might see restorations streaming or holograph or something. We (anyone 18-80) will not.

Prove me wrong Peter, prove me wrong James. I double dare you mother****ers prove me wrong!

Bad Taste
The Frighteners
