However, the purists' complaints are exaggerated and the dubs can be appreciated for how well the actors embodied their characters.

The episode wasn't banned. It didn't air on Cartoon Network with the other episodes, but Geneon dubbed it and released it on DVD. Either way, Discotek will definitely include it.

I hope they release all four sets in 2016. One every three months doesn't seem too much to ask. I forgot about the two episodes Streamline dubbed, but am really glad they'll be included. Discotek producing new dubs for 76 episodes wasn't plausible. They've said that if Jigen's Gravestone sells well, they'll do more dubs. Maybe they could reunite the cast for a few episodes.

More interesting are the special features. I can't imagine they won't have some commentaries and liner notes. That's sufficient, but would be nice if they can conjure up some other goodies.
Yes Cartoon Network did not want to show it because of Hitler(even though the Fusion Reborn DBZ movie briefly shows a similar character and lets not forget the Fullmetal Alchemist movie which did show on Adult Swim, though granted Hitler wasn't the real enemy of the movie but did have the whole Nazis and Hitler's prejudice ways against Jews and people with blonde hair and blue eyes). But Geneon was supposed to put the episode on the 1st DVD Volume but instead it came out as episode 28 on the 5th Volume when it should have been episode 3.

The dub definitely felt like it was made for an Adult Swim audience for the people watching it on TV. Almost like Americanizing Editing but instead of Edited it tried to be more Uncut like the Manga Entertainment Dub of Castle Of Cagliostro.

I think Geneon was being too cautious. Maybe they thought the show's silliness would make the references more offensive, but I don't think Lupin III was ever on the radar of the type of people who would be offended by such a thing.

It was better than that dub of Cagliostro on account of being cleaner and the vulgarity fitting the slightly risque tone of the show better than the chaste tone of Miyazaki's film. You're right that the dub was intended for an Adult Swim audience which was misguided. No amount of cussing will turn Lupin into Cowboy Bebop. To be fair, a more faithful dub probably wouldn't have made the show a hit.

Discotek, on the other hand, knows the audience for the franchise and has been tailoring their releases for them rather than trying to court other people.

Perhaps with the newly priced down release of the original series we might finally get the original series on BD here in the States? Just speculating, but a man can dream

Does Media Blasters still have the license to Berserk? If so god help us...

Their rights to the original TV series expired back in 2013.

Viz Media probably has their eyes on it though since they released the movies.

Is that the news Richard Epcar hinted at? I remember reading something about episodes being recorded that were never released, but didn't know if it were true. It will be freaking great if Discotek gets their hands on more audio.

This seems like a good master list. I assume it's pretty accurate if not perfect. Does the list in this thread still get updated? Is it any different than the one I linked?

I hate steelbooks but it certainly isn't a terrible one, plus I've been meaning to get Gankutsuou since the original releases. A few more shots and they might win me over.

I'm indifferent when it comes to formats in general, keep case, digipak, amaray, steelbook, just don't f**k it up and if you can't guarantee that, please just stick to a blue amaray pls. I own some amazing digipaks and some absolute trash ones, likewise for steelbooks, crazy how they find ways to ruin simple things. Generally you can't go wrong with an amaray with some nice artwork, forget including a box because apparently that's hard too.

It's BD so that should be ok.
Since we don't have a BD release in the US if ever I might look into this one. Although for 45 GBP that is high.

Looks nice, it's using the cover Geneon used for Volume 1. I won't be picking it up though as Japan sadly messed up the upscale (Especially noticeable in shot 4, less detail in the hair on the BD). The loss of detail is a complete deal-breaker, especially given how Gankutsuou is a very colorful show, one of the most visually interesting anime in terms of artwork around. The ideal release for me would be the Geneon singles with artbox. Especially since FUNi like usual during that time failed to get the video extras the previous company got on license-rescues, and also FUNi's release may be inferior to Geneon's in terms of video quality (I've heard that usually was the case on license-rescues for them, even Trigun....(Not Geneon's but it works)).

There's even more pics on their blog http://blog.alltheanime.com/
I like that the discs aren't stack like the ones they use here in the US.

Hmm not a steelbook with that spine. Probably a Metalpak/Futurepak.

Ahh just looked at the pics and yep...MP/FP. Hate those spines.

Yep, Metalpak, like the Elfen Lied one that came out a few months ago over here.

Posted this in the UK thread, but I'll post it here as well - the Miss Hokusai release is looking mighty fine;

That's a wooden frame!
