Me too dickie, I may just get this anyway if I can find a copy in our HMV. This will be a triple dip for me on this title!

On the same day as 3 releases of concern get reviewed over on DVD Beaver.

Dan Curtis' Dracula sped up to 50i despite 24p releases elsewhere, The Harder They Come cut and stretched but most disappointingly given the hype, their new restoration of Dr Terror's House of Horrors which has issues of concern highlighted in comparison to the Olive disc.

At least Tower of Evil seems fine!

What issues of concern? I just read the DVD Beaver review and he stated that it looked like it was closer to what would be in the theatre. Also the extras are apparently amazing.

the reviewer seems to favour the Odeon,
but looking at the screenshots
the Odeon looks brighter and maybe has some DNR
aside from the opening title, colour tint doesn't look too obvious to me, and as said maybe more accurate to the original look

OK so it may not be disastrous but myself and no doubt others are very disappointed in how it compares to the Olive transfer when it's supposed to be a new 4K scan from the OCN. We had such high hopes it'd be the definitive article!

The main thing is, if they can get the opening title the wrong colour, how can we trust the grading on the rest of it? I think Odeon need to hire these out to someone other than Pinewood. I've noticed a yellow/orange bias and perhaps some automated clean-up artefacts on other titles where Odeon have had Pinewood do some clean-up. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now it's becoming a pattern.

Well I prefer the look of the Olive Blu-Ray, and I prefer the cover. I think I may cancel my Odeon order and get the Olive release from an Amazon marketplace.

there's audio commentary and approx 2hrs of extra's on Odeon
Olive has no extra's
best to buy both
I'm fine with keeping Odeon for now, as not that much of difference to me and I want the extras

yes well maybe or maybe not, as he also said he preferred the Odeon in motion
[Show spoiler]The more I look at both Dr. Terror's House of Horrors transfers - the more I lean to the Odeon. But I keep bouncing back and forth between the two. The brighter look and cooler skin tones seem more pleasing. The Olive release is actually more technically robust and may show advanced texture. But I'll go with the Odeon as the more correct in terms of replicating the original 'look' but, as with everything, it can come down to your personal preference. They both look very strong in-motion, but there again I might lean to the UK release.

and Extras
[Show spoiler]The other huge difference are the supplements. Olive go their usual bare-bones route, but Odeon stack their limited edition steelcase - with a worthwhile commentary with director/cinematographer Freddie Francis and Jonathan Sothcott and almost two hours of featurettes in the form of a an excellent Making of Dr Terror documentary by Nucleus Films and an appreciation of the life and career of the late Sir Christopher Lee. There is a gallery of images, a trailer and the package contains liner notes - a 12 page appreciation booklet by horror writer, Johnny Mains.

I loved the film's segments - 'Werewolf', 'Creeping Vine' (reminiscent of The Day of the Triffids), 'Voodoo', 'Disembodied Hand' (With Christopher Lee), 'Vampire' (with Donald Sutherland) and the Epilogue. Amicus Productions can rank right up there with some of the most charismatic of Hammer Studios' efforts. This is a winner and worthy of the LE and steelcase that Odeon are releasing. Strongly recommended!

Tower Of Evil is DVDBeaver approved
[Show spoiler]With very similar a/v (perhaps a slight edge to the Odeon), the UK disc gets the nod with the more complete supplements, including the commentary, plus Rigby and Seretta Wilson video pieces. I continue to like this film - it's on my 'keeper' shelf. The intangibles and Brit atmosphere add value to this reviewer. Great job Odeon - this is the real-deal. Recommended!

Odeon/Screenbound Pictures
noticed some FB comments/posts answering questions for more Pete Walker films

We are gradually working through HD remastering on almost all Pete Walker films and updating some existing HD masters from the US.
Die Screaming Marianne is next on the list for Spring 2016.

We'll definitely release The flesh and blood show and Frightmare on Bluray by Autumn next year.

Yes, i was surprised to see that a few days ago. Still available elsewhere but my order has been in for a while. Somehow I doubt this will receive the heated frenzy that Hellraiser is getting at the moment.

If it's sold out already, it's very surprising. Delightful, but surprising.

I say delightful not because of scalper value, but because as a big fan of these films it would warm the cockles of my heart to see this special release being lapped up.

Incidentally, me personal opinion on the colour-timing issue is that, while I'll never claim the Odeon is right as I haven't seen it theatrically, the Olive has a touch of the 'blues'… wallpaper, curtains, pyjamas, Alan Freeman with a blue shirt.. strange that this hasn't met with the furore Dracula got.

Also with The Harder They Come, having actually watched it, the stretching if it's there is not in the least bit obvious. i actually went back to it and in a film that has so many round objects, clocks, bicycle wheel, mirrors etc what I spot-checked looked geometrically sound. Could be that some of the lesser sources have been stretched to fit with the restored portion.

I mentioned "teal" as I interpreted it in the US disc thread, but immediately got shot down. Seems Amicus doesn't generate the same level of mudslinging as Hammer discs.

The way I see it, the US disc is very teal biased and the UK disc is orange biased. In response to the initial concerns when the DVD Beaver review first popped up, an Odeon exec (or should I say Screenbound now) said their grading is the more accurate and I have no reason to doubt them. I hope they don't mind me quoting their whole post since it pretty much sells their disc as the best choice.

Always interesting to hear people's views. As we have overseen the scan and restoration of Dr Terror at Pinewood, we have more insight than if we receive a restored master from another source. The master we supplied to the US was an unrestored master, which is obvious from the screengrab comparisons. If some people prefer unrestored masters which have not been graded and colourised according to the original director approved prints then that's their choice. The restoration that took place at Pinewood was only for our release and the difference is obvious. The whole feel of Dr Terror was intended to be lurid colours with greens and reds and I'm pleased to say the comparison grabs make this obvious - particularly the one of the female werewolf whereby the colours are vivid and the hair is defined on our grab, whereas in the other, the colours are muted and you can't even distinguish where the hair ends and background begins. There's another telling comparison grab from the werewolf story of the father and daughter, whereby the ceiling lights in the background are the proper yellowy/white in our grab but pink in the other grab - oh dear! There's a reason why graders and colourists at facilities like Pinewood and Deluxe are on high salaries, and why it often takes them over 5 years of being an assistant before becoming fully-fledged.

Great post. I have to say I was surprised when some people seemed to prefer the Olive print. This pretty much straightens up any questions on the print

I'm pleased to say that we are currently undergoing a Group re-branding over the next four months. The catalyst for this is that 2014/5 has seen many great things happening to us as a group with more opportunities opening up for international film distribution, productions, theatrical releases, HD remastering, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital releases. We’ve had several successful theatrical releases as ‘cinema events’ this year, and are keen to do other special screenings to showcase wonderful masters such as the new Dr Terror’s House of Horrors. As more cinema releases would cause confusion with the Odeon Cinema brand we’ve decided to bring all our companies, Odeon Entertainment , OIL Licensing, A2B Media and OEG Classic Movies underneath the collective banner of Screenbound Entertainment Group with Screenbound Pictures being the publishing label, Screenbound Releasing being the theatrical distributor, Screenbound Productions being the content production company and Screenbound International Pictures being our international sales and distribution arm. All the existing film titles remain with us of course and will be rebranded as new releases come out or are re-pressed, and we will gradually be revealing parts of the new branding in the build up to Christmas, as well as more exciting news to follow in December for all horror fans!
